What a great day out, dominated by the result rather than the performance.
The first half was pretty uneventful, we were the better side and controlled the game for the first 35 minutes. Gillingham were dreadful and I don't think they had a single shot on target but then, apart from the goal I am not sure we did either.
They had clearly targeted Nick, Kellen and Lolos and all three struggled to get into the game. They were doubled marked and tightly marked throughout.
The defence was superb and Dion was outstanding throughout. We coped with Corey's inconsistent passing by going long a lot to little effect as Orsi can't header the ball and his control was, unusually, very poor.
Adam Campbell was probably our best player in the first half, he was everywhere and breaking up their midfield play to good effect.
Tom Nichols was one of their better players but Nadesan's contribution was summed up by a comment from our crowd that it took a move to Gilingham for him to be our best player!
The goal was absolutely fantastic. Even from where we were it looked inside the box, perhaps the highlights will confirm but what a strike from Will!
Second half was different. They took control, we started playing very hesitantly and seemed to sit back and try to hit them on the break.
Cue Corey. He pulled off three or four extraordinary saves and kept us in the game with an outstanding performance.
Ww struggled a little in the secondhalf but all the subs made a difference, especially Jack Roles. He was only on for a minute when Nick found space on the left, took the ball to the edge of the area and cut the ball back for Jack to strike it first time into the roof of the net.
Pandemonium upon pandemonium in the away end and as the players came over to celebrate with us you could see how much it meant to them.
That knocked the stuffing out of Gillingham and although they still buzzed around our goal, they dud very little and we went into the last few minutes we comfortably saw the game out.
Very well done to Scott, who was very clearly delighted at the end and all the players.
No failures throught the team - Man of the Match by a country mile was Corey. Special mentions to the defence, Adam Campbell and Jack Roles.
Special mention for the fans as well - never stopped singing and especially for the whole of the second half.
