So it's the expansion of the Champions League that causes it then Ridiculous really, the big clubs moan they play too much football - with clearly the FA Cup and League Cup in mind, but will presumably lap up the chance for a larger CL competition.

There will probably be 4 English teams in the CL next season. How many teams in the FA Cup? Literally hundreds. So guess which competition takes precedence?
The FA have no backbone whatsoever. But then we all knew that.
1st and 2nd round replays abolished as well? That was not in the original proposal and it has not been suggested before now. So something has happened to bring this in.
Why were Premier League teams lobbying for this when they are not even affected?
As usual the big clubs benefit from something only at the expense of the lower leagues.
It’s sickening once again the Premier League don’t give a toss about the lower leagues. They forget the FA Cup is so important to smaller clubs. They moan about fixture congestion then fly to the other side of the world for meaningless pre season games and don’t fall for the money will trickle down to the leagues. It never does.

Yes, I can't understand this either. Neither the FA nor the Premier League seem to care about the lower leagues. Can't understand why the replays for 1st and 2nd round have been abolished. When was the last time a L1 or L2 club was in Europe? Have they ever been?
They are denying the non-league teams a big potential pay day at a big L1 or L2 if they mange to draw in the initial game. My guess TV has a lot to do with this. They want people watching Champions League on pay TV rather than go to a match at what they regard as as a tinpot club. Disgraceful decision!

Spot on. Non-league teams will suffer too. There are over 700 teams eligible to play in the FA Cup each year and the decision was taken by only 20 clubs.
Part of the trade-off was for more money to be released by the Premier League in solidarity payments to the EFL clubs, yet two years later the Premier League are still stalling on this and pulled out of the latest talks (again).
Richard Masters, the representative for the Premier League has been told by the government that the new regulator will have powers to impose this but that will be at least two years away.

Trickle-down economics has always been about pissing on those lower in the system, and that applies in and out of football.
Disappointed with SL's view when asked. He said he could understand money concerns for smaller clubs, but from football sense made sense, saying already played 51 games this year (53 by end of month).
Minimum is 51 (46 league, 1 FA Cup, 1 Carabao and 3 BSM Trophy). Is he saying does not want to do well in cups. Should cancel BSM if want to reduce games?
