I take on board all the stuff about it isnt a sprint to sign players, lots goes on behind the scenes etc etc but I was just discussing with my sons if this is the most boring (lack of decent rumours/signings, mostly "non" news on the website, no exciting developments from within the club, same old boring friendlies, Pompey aside)close season for several years? Or maybe I (like many others over the last 2/3 seasons) am finally starting to lose interest after all these years. Then again maybe and hopefully it will herald our most successful season for several years?!
The thing is we don't need to sign many players because we have so many under contract. So quite on the transfer front.
We are not satisfied with the Chelsea/Arsenal kids any more and most Championship and league One sides are considered dull so the friendlies don't grab the imagination as they used too.
I think we've drifted into complacency. It used to be a reasonable deal to get a championship PSF. But over the last few years there are many teams in next seasons Championship/League 1 - I reckon at least 38 of them we've played in competitive fixtures and then there are at least 7 Premier League clubs we've also played competively. So the lustre has gone. Add to that a squad full of players we've grown used to seeing and a stable ownership behind the scenes all adds up to a mundane pre-season. Not great for generating excitement but a sign of the stability we now have. So I'll take a few more mundane pre-seasons if you like
It wasnt necessarily a complaint against the club just a hope that a dull pre season turns into a great (or even fair) season and the worry that with so little of note (HK seems to divide opinion over his appointment?) it cannot have done much for S/T sales? Have we that many players under contract, did people like Arthur leave? HK might have seen something in our squad but over 46 games they proved that as a team they were not very good and apart from having a superb goalscorer and a fine GK we would have been in the mire, so there is definitely a need to bring in 3 or 4 decent quality players still, even with Danny B signing. But then again maybe HK is a miracle worker and can get something out of the players that DD couldnt (goals from other players for one thing!). As for PSFs I have never been a fan and cannot see any fun in letting the "carrier bags" come up here to show off to the locals and entice a few more waverers away (it did happen last season). Obviously will make a bit of cash presumably as an incentive for us to let their kids team play at our ground to showcase them even more (you might be able to tell I have a great dislike of BHA something fuelled even more by our treatment at the SSC Final when they stuck us away in a far corner with inadequate refreshment facilities and nobody has ever come back with a justification for this). And as for "lets go for global domination "Chelsea XI" again a chance for local youngsters to ally themselves even more closely with the shirts they seen on tv or at the Chelsea Academy over the road (and dont even get me started on what AFC Dons and Chelsea did to Kingstonians). Maybe these are compensation for us voting for the U23/21 kids teams in the Checkatrade Trophy despite huge nationwide opposition from supporters (but then when did we ever count?). I was pleased that we did get one decent good last minute friendly in Portsmouth as that should be a competitive game and they are a decent a large away crowd.

Personally speaking - as a troublemaker with three bans to his credit in the last decade or so - I welcome and can definitely cope with a dull pre-season...
...but one of the reasons it might appear worse for others is that we had an extremely dull extended end to the season, we went backwards for most of this calendar year and suffered at least a couple of months when the football on offer was at best uninspired and at worst just downright agony to witness.

Looking back Thad, and taking into account the odd few weeks of hope , the last three or four seasons have been pretty tedious with a terrible goalscoring record (Collins aside this season) and little or no cup success to lighten the tedium so maybe it is a gradual wearing down that has created the mood!?

More than mickf suggested, this has got to have reached the ultra-boredom stage now, what can you do if even news of the Reggie the Red vacancy fails to cause movement on the forum? .........

Blimey - it is a very sad day when Crawley fans aren't even stirred by an incident of regicide
Dull pre seasons are great when you have just had a good season and it's all about keeping the squad together.
However my memory isn't that bad, last season was pretty dire and adding a 38 year old midfielder, a raw but untested forward and a Dutch league 2 player leaves me feeling a bit underwhelmed.
I know there is still plenty of time but the league season starts 6 weeks today, lets hope we don't end up signing more Chelsea kids and players from Woking.
More importantly the players need a decent pre-season not another year where frankly we just weren't fit enough.

the way falmer village treated us in a supposed neutral final was disgusting. Reds fans can have the last laugh though as they will be the whipping boys of the prem league next season. Straight back down.

We can live in hope (well I can anyway!). But we cannot keep relying on others being rubbish we need to do something ourselves this season.
