People will agree and disagree on his punishment, if the coming game on Thursday was a world cup semi final and not Montenegro, then would he of been left out by the manager, i think Southgate has got it wrong on this occasion, but there again when we know all the facts who knows.

Think Southgate has got this spot on. England players are adored by millions and paid millions, and they have a responsibility to behave in a certain way. Setting the right example should come first and results secondary. This is one reason I would never of had Wayne Rooney or John Terry etc as my captain.

You can always bank on Sterling to perform well.
Pound for pound he's one of the best players England have.
The press seem to be showing a lot of interest in the story, however, the news coverage could be over inflated, which is always a problem when minted players who earn bundles have these on field disputes.
We will miss him , but let's hope England get over it and can cash in on Thursday with a win.

Sterling was an idiot and fully deserves this punishment. Southgate did the right thing, especially as he consulted with the players who apparently mostly agreed with the punishment. It was supposedly only the fact that Gomez vouched for him that stopped him being sent away from the squad for both games. The story was already leaked before England and Southgate went public with it, so the behind closed doors argument doesn't really apply.
It doesn't matter how good you are or important you are to the team. If you physically attack a teammate, unprovoked, then you deserve any punishment that comes your way. Sterling has had to deal with a lot of grief over the years, from the media and racist fans, and he's done so admirably, but he's 100% in the wrong here and needs to learn a lot of lessons from this experience.

I don't think Southgate should have consulted with the players, he's the manager and should be decisive, but the right decision has been made.

i dont rate Sterling. Happy if he doesnt play.
What as a person?Surely you can't be questioning his football ability.8 goals in 6 matches for England this season.
Punch ups between teamates have always been a standard element of the game & always will be, usually ending with them having a beer or two together to clear the air.
The real surprise would be that anyone is genuinely surprised by it, likely they have never shared a changing room at a local rec after an error-strewn defeat.
I suppose that nowadays the level of media intrusion means that it simply can no longer remain a private matter, but it really has been blown up out of all proportion.

The difference was this WASN'T on the training pitch - it was a private canteen area for the players. I think that does change the perspective of it somewhat

Yes Ant, two adult male team mates have a tear up in a PRIVATE area, in my view it makes it even less of a public matter than a training ground bust up...
...big deal... storm in teacup has never been more appropriate...!
