Skeptical about anyone who was not born into the curse of supporting the club. But harsh to criticise someone willing to write off a million a year for the club. To early to say the strategy not working. Also I would say 75% of the clubs in the land have not done well with there last 3 managers. You could argue Harry Kewel was actually doing well the season he left for a bigger job.

This exactly, Ziya pours money into it knowing he won’t get it back. Reality is that we are at the level we deserve but until our attendance approves I can’t see us going anywhere no matter what management or owners we have. But the issue is, is the football good enough to warrant watching and how can we tempt people to watch us over London clubs. As for Kewell meh he reminded me of Barker too much very stubborn.

Like to see harry come back.
I hope not. Cost of enlarging all the doors for a start.

Controversial view - I still think we were wrong to sack Barker and we’ve just been lurching from manager to manager ever since.

was thinking this earlier, hasn’t he had the best record post Evans? He was ruthless in his team selection but him waiting till the 80th minute to make a change every game was quite infuriating

I disagree with some of the views on Barker. In his first season he benefited from the ‘feel good factor’ of the previous seasons promotion and the work O’Driscoll did in pre-season. However, credit where it’s due he joined in late pre-season and we secured our highest ever finish in the pyramid, to date.
The following season he got sacked after 18 games after earning 22 points (1 more than Cioffi got after 19 games). This followed a run of seven games without a win (and us only scoring one goal in those seven games). Merged with his abrasive manner; I thought it was the right time for a change.
However, your right the downward spiral began then.
In terms of our situation now; it comes down to expectations. Have the last three managers failed or have they performed to expectation given the working constraints. There is no doubt the owners are investing money but I’m sceptical that the investment is akin to a top eight budget (as occasionally gets mentioned); no doubt there is a marketing angle to suggesting the budgets are good but it adds extra pressure and an expectation which might be beyond any manager we appoint.
It might be an unpopular view but we are going to need to be patient. For me the obvious candidate is Tisdale; he seems the type that could be attracted to a project (if they do the hard sell about a new training ground on the horizon), and yes I acknowledge that he may not consider working within the current structure. However even with Tisdale we will have to give it time; (after Exeter were relegated to League 2) it took him 5 seasons to get them in the playoffs; with arguably better resources than we could offer him (primarily their youth system which has earnt them millions in transfer fees over the last few years). I'm not sure if the fans would give any manager that time-frame.
I hope the club reflect on the criteria for recruiting the manager and are proactive in approaching candidates rather than inviting applications; hopefully get some appointed before the Port Vale game.

That was about the time we had to start making financial adjustments. We lost the spine of the team due to needing to offload some of the wage bill, and some of the contract renewals were offered on far worse terms than the players had been receiving. It was time for reality to start - low end league 2 attendance figures meant a lower than average league 2 team. Before that we were still on the financial bounce from Hong Kong Paul (cheers, mate, if you're reading) and the cash injection from a trip to Old Trafford. It could only be sustained if we were near-filling the ground every week with paying customers.
I've no regrets. Those few years were my most enjoyable football watching years ever, even greater than England winning the World Cup and Man Utd winning the '68 European Cup, and my late friend's young son tagged along to enjoy it with me. I will treasure those memories until I can no longer remember. It was even better than the Southern League promotion in the late 60s.
Matt Harold has an unbeaten managerial record here, just saying......
And Simon Wormull is out of a job (recently sacked by Burgess Hill). his past record was Won: 11, Drawn: 7, Lost: 13, but no one can beat Steve Evans Won: 128, Drawn: 68, Lost: 70, our departed manager Gabby's record was Won: 21, Drawn: 13, Lost: 38
