Personally, I've never seen the appeal of flags at the football and can't see it improving the atmosphere.
In my opinion, a better way of improving the atmosphere would be the folded card clappers that many Premiership clubs have used. If fans aren't willing to join in chants, they are more likely to be willing to clap a piece of cardboard against there hand and make a bit of noise they otherwise wouldn't.

I liked those flappers at a pre-season friendly at Bournemouth and yes I do believe they add a bit to the atmosphere; but the most effective addition is if the Stewards 'stood back' a bit, its not like we have a hooligan element at the club. Seriously we must be one of the more family friendly league two clubs and it was very noticable in the past when the club steps up its approach to 'policing' the atmosphere drops. Yes fans need to behave but really have we even had a single ejection this season?
Interesting that the consensus appears to be that it was better on the terraces in non-league days...
... Contrary to the League policy of segregating fans, I always thought that allowing supporters to change ends at halftime actually added to the atmosphere & I can never recall any negative incidents as a consequence either...?
