Great game, happy for German he’s a quality player very raw talent and was due a goal for the work he’s put in. The Cat once again saved us from bad situations. One player that no one mentioned that I thought did well was Sesay for someone who hasn’t played a lot second half of the season I felt he was very influential towards our goals and forward movement.
A decent game and a resounding win. Oldham started very strongly and had a few decent chances. Morris kept us in it with one particular save with his face !!! Well worked 1st goal so pleased for German. Questioned the 1st sub Powel for German. Was Yems going try to defend a 1 - 0 lead? Nope, Powell & Tarryn both had good games with Tarryn making our 2nd for Nasedan. Bez confirmed the win with a well taken penalty, although apparently Francombe was designated penalty taker. Doherty had a poor 1st half, very hesitant, but improved 2nd half. Sessay had a great game which was good to see. Nasedan should of had a hattrick if he was more clinical / lucky.
Overall a great performance 3 points and we keep the positive GD.
We seem to be using possession better these days. According to the beeb site only 37%, but still win 3-0. It sounds like a style that suits us.
Rip up the coaching manual.
Conventional football wisdom is to press high from the start, restricting space, hope that the pressure & possesion gets you the lead... then later... as opposition chase the game, bring on subs to defend deep & look for quick breakaway goals to consolidate win...!
Yesterday we did the diametric opposite, wide open in the 1st half we got a breakaway goal, then bought on subs, pressed them high & worked 2 more goals through decent passing moves...!
After the first 30 mins there was only one way I would have said that was a three nil game and that was an away win. But the team stuck at it. Grabbed a break away goal and improved.
I did think the set up if the side meant we were overrun in midfield. That's why, imho, it got better when Tarryn came on. He was playing further back than German and helped our midfield a lot more. Saying that, I did thing German did well.
I would really like to see a game where a great save from Morris was not required. It's great he can do it but we are rellying on it too much.
Oh and yesterday was the first time that I was pleased for a German to score
Maybe he should be our designated penalty taker.
Nice moment for the lad after the game, when JY & LB raised him aloft in front of the applauding home terrace crowd, to acknowledge the occasion of his first league goal.
It is one of those sort of little things that reflect a strong team ethos. He has certainly made the most of his opportunity, it has never looked likely before that Ollie would ever have to scrap for a start.
