Crawley Town play at home to Oldham Athletic in League Two of the 2019/2020 season, SATURDAY 7TH MARCH 2020 3:00 pm kick off. Please keep all discussion about the match to this thread. Thank you and come on Reds!
Easy to overlook the contribution of Glenn Morris, Oldham certainly had a few chances in the first half...
...lovely link-up between Nadesan with German for our first & Taryn for the 2nd.
Must have broken the Refs heart to award us that penalty, only thing we got out of him all match..!
Right starting line-up & right changes too, not much more to ask for from the Manager. We moved to a high press with the changes & looked better for it too, although Oldham were deflated by then.
We seem to be using possession better these days. According to the beeb site only 37%, but still win 3-0. It sounds like a style that suits us.
I agree, we get the ball forward earlier now and play the ball in behind for the likes of Nadesan, German and Lubala to run onto. Much more effective than Oldham’s passing game playing it around at the back on the half way line. Simpler and more effective tactics in this league and with the players we’ve got.
Great performance and a satisfying 3-0 win against a decent Oldham side, they were not as poor as their league position might suggest I thought.
First half Oldham had more of the ball, lots of keep ball, but when they played it long in behind us it was more effective and Morris made a few good saves to keep us in it and Ash with some more great link up play put German through on goal to score with a very well taken finish after cutting inside. Somewhat fortunate to go in 1-0 up at HT.
Second half we played much better and I was wondering what the heck Yem’s was doing taking off German who was looking dangerous up front, but it proved to be an inspired change as Tarryn came on and had the best game I’ve seen from him in a striker/ attacking midfielder role and set up Ash after a great run on the counter and good ball through for Ash to lift it over the keeper first time to make it 2-0. From there Oldham fell apart and we started to enjoy ourselves, almost showboating after going 3-0 with a penalty from Lubala. As a side note, Yems and Bradbury were screaming “GEORGE” which I would assume means Francombe was supposed to be the designated penalty taker? Last 10 minutes were good fun and we could have got a couple more with Camara and Powell also with good cameos as well. All in all an enjoyable game! Shout outs to Ash and German who’ve both really improved there games and Morris with another exemplary display in goal!
I wasnt sure why German came off as he was doing a reasonably good job. In the end we were virtually taking the pee outta Oldham playing it in and around their pen box. All this possession football from Oldham was laughable. We did what counted when we had the ball - scored 3 goals. Though to be fair they shouldve had a couple thenselves. Morris by a million miles MOM. Shout out for German as when Oliie is back Id rather partner these two together. Second shout out for Tarryn who i seriously dunno what he has to do to start a match. Good value game. We remain mid table.
Allarakhia was superb, think he deserved MOTM from the bench.
Odd first half where we probably scored against the run of play. German still has to work on his touch and lay offs but what a great moment for him.
Oldham I guess are where they are in the table due to their collapse like a pancake in the second half but they were a little unlucky to lose their talisman Wheater
Maybe a mention for Powell who in my opinion changed the game wanting the ball, accurate passes and even his corners looked dangerous. In common with others on the forum I too cannot understand why Allarakhia doesn't get more game time.

Whilst it can't be denied that Powell and Allarakhia in particular were superb when they came on, Oldham were on the rocks at that point and looked out of ideas. Give them both 90 minutes and see how they do. I think they both deserve a chance.
