Non season ticket holders (STH) may not be overly happy with all they heard. For STH's oompensation is ifollow, discount in shop purchase then pro-rata refund BUT on NEXT year season ticket. Is that morally right? OK Im highly unlikely not to renew but what if I were going to Uni say or moving up North for a job.
Anyone tests positive and track and trace is implemented to ALL parts and persons of the ground, I wonder which football league club will close first?
Im pleased that face masks are only required moving around and not whilst positioned stood/sat in the stadium.
go to 14 min 16 sec and shortly after....Tom says "If you are medically exempt from wearing a face mask you will be challenged on that" (I COULD NOT BELIEVE I HEARD THAT and the question attached to this about is it right to insist in the lanyard exemption really seemed to cause an awkward reply from Tom and I can only assume he was not privy to these questions). Tom can you imagine the outrage that would cause if this happened in Asda or Poundland or Boots etc? Pretending this lanyard is to prevent Stewards repeatedly asking the same thing i.e. can you wear a face mask, im afraid just digs an even bigger hole!
George; this is difficult. One person's civil liberty is another person's 'couldnt care less'. I also try not to get into, what can be construed as, political discussions on here as I feel it is not the place but...
The club is in a difficult position. If they let people in without face masks they will be shut down and the club could well go out of business. If they challenge people without face masks, who are exempt from wearing them, they are impinging on our human rights.
What I got from this part of the interview was that the club didn't want to continuously challenge fans around the ground for not wearing masks but, if people are wandering around without them, they will have to. The lanyard system will aid in this.
I admit I happily wear a mask in shops and such and I will wear one around the ground. I also understand the disquiet at being questioned by officials (and not so official) which is against English civil 'law'. I do believe that this could be the thin end of a very wide wedge and we will, all, have to be very careful when the new normal really gets going.
Seriously, I wonder why some people feel a need to make a drama about everything.
The point Tom was making about masks was clear. If you don't have one on a steward may ask you. They are not challenging the legitimacy of your medical exemption, just checking you have one. All you have to say is "I have an exemption". Masks are not always intuitive - as an example I met a client for a coffee in a mall in Dubai the other day, at a certain point I walked about 75 metres across the mall to the washrooms and forgot to replace my mask. A security guard politely stopped me to check and it was sorted. Getting fans back is a challenging time, we don't need to infringe civil liberties but nor do we need to make things harder than they are.
Re STs....well it must be pretty obvious to anyone buying one that there might be logistical challenges this season. If the compensation issue troubles you it may be best not to buy one. Then you remove the issue yourself.
All they need to know is that you're exempted - no-one is asking a supporter to breach their right to medical confidentiality by saying why they have the exemption. My main struggle with face masks is that my glasses steam up a lot in most atmospheric conditions, so it's good to know that they needn't be worn while watching the game. I did consider switching to contact lenses for the first time, but don't fancy that.

its not a drama its what ive been told by a couple of people that are exempt is quite insulting. Tom could and shouldve addressed this better. How would someone feel if they were entitled to say park in a disabled parking space (remembering not all disabilities are obvious) and challenged or sat in a priority seat on a train and challenged. Unless you are that person I doubt you will fully appreciate it. Im simply just surprised in what I heard given what others had told me and their feelings on this.
Understandably the club are trying to get as many fans in as possible but eventhat wont please everyone as there is argument if you ban away fans they will ban you in return. Though it seems the EFL will ultimately decide this.
There are some very tight squeezes around the ground where even 1m is impossible such as toilet entrance/exits, so of course the masks make sense, but I would rather see stewards ensure fans dont block exits, walkways, steps etc. than challenging non face wearers. Anyone that forgets to wear one needs to look at themselves and whilst a reminder may be helpful to some, notices outside Boots and ad-hoc PA announcements as you shop in Morrisons seems to work ok. You are gonna see plenty wearing masks so if that doesnt trigger a memory I dunno what will.
If the first steward upon entry is doing his/her job properly why does every steward thereafter feel the need to challenge?
And finally whilst on the subject of masks Im surprised the club isnt selling CTFC masks.

If you park in a disabled space you have a blue badge that avoids the need to be challenged. A lanyard is a similar concept. There will be lessons learnt along the way, I'm sure. However I think it's a bit much to be taking pot shots at Tom at this point.

have you thought about a face shield?
No, I hadn't considered that possibility. I might need to get one at some point anyway as I've lost a chunk of work and the best way to replace it is by cold calling at front doors. Mind you, I'll try to avoid that until the spring.
