Youngsters may find it very difficult to believe...
...but there was a time - seriously - when it was the flagship football event for the season....!
Indeed it was ...complete with a 6 hour build up including things like Cup final "it's a knockout ". Then all down the park afterwards to recreate the winning goal! Things were normal before sky y'know.
The first one I remember focussing on was the Spurs vs Chelsea final in '67. Without looking it up I can still remember the scorers were Robertson, Saul;, and Tambling (but can't even recall where I put my remote control five minutes earlier). I did see snippets of the previous year's final (Everton vs Sheff Wed) through the window of a TV shop in London. I wondered why there were a load of guys staring into the window so went to find out. All monochrome in those days, of course - and only two channels (three or four if you were lucky and had Southern and the part-timers on BBC2). Mind you, most of Southern was the same as ITV.

Youngsters may also find it difficult to believe that actual human beings used to always be allowed to watch professional sports games in person. This was called a crowd. Although us at Crawley have never experienced that at the Broadfield anyway!
Well after a season moaning about VAR it proved its worth spectacularly today, I’d call that a tight but clear offside and the lino might have missed it, denying Leicester a deserved win. VAR does address a problem of many decades standing, which is officials unconsciously giving the 50-50s to the bigger, glamorous clubs
I wandered off to make a coffee and sandwich at one point. When I returned, Chilwell was being booed whenever he touched the ball. I have it recorded so I'll have to look at what caused that as I imagine it was due to some incident.

That will be an incident of leaving LCFC for CFC in the close season.
Noticeable degree of affection for the owners of Leicester, in contrast to other recent events.

A tight offside, correctly called. Of course in the run up to Leicester goal there was a tight handball.....

Yes, of course. I don't keep track of stuff like that so much these days.
