Crawley Town play at home against Barrow in the 2021/22 EFL League 2, Saturday 9th April 15:00 kick off. Please keep all discussion about the match to this thread. Thank you and come on you Reds.
late arrival. Technical issues here (me not club!). Today Crawley v Barrow.
Halftime 0-0 quite uneventful half. Barrow have had plenty opportunities arround pen area but lack quality finish.
Not the most convincing win but we scored they didnt, so a clean sheet and 3 points gotta be pleased. We make hard work of it at times but credit to team and management we got stronger and second half played on front foot. Barrow looked lost and well rattled when we scored. I thought we could have put the game well beyond their reach. A few nervous moments as Barrow went forward in the closing stages. Nadeson good game but for me Hutchinson MOM. Wooden (or greasy) spoon to the chips greasy and poor value. Catering needs improving.
100% record under new owners. Yeah not great game but plenty of excitement even if created at times by mistakes. Why was Hutchinson sub'd? Good to see Yems back after covid.

Good goal taken by Kwesi but he missed 3 other sitters. 1 in 4 and MOM I dont think so! Nads, Tom or Hutch for me. Barrow are a poor side. We let them play and thankfully they couldnt finish. After the break we improved but the subs were risky and too defensive afterwards. We somewhat hung on unnecessarily.

Yes the catering needs improving all round. Queues are far too long and the price quality and variety very poor.
For any new fans following on iFollow etc you have my sympathy. That was a poor game.
The least said about the first half the better but we came out in the second half and began to play and, to be fair, we're the much better team. Our problems began with the subs. Good to see Lynch get some minutes but without Hutchinson there was very little creativity from the middle of the park. Saying that I could see why Yems subbed him.
Big shout our for Hessenthaler, Francomb and Nichols today. Playing out of position and doing a decent job.
The results today mean we cannot get relegated. I knew we wouldn't but its always nice when the maths agrees.

Yeah I agree with most of what you said.
Overall the standard from both teams wasn't great. First half was poor, second half we really stepped it up and the game was much more open with both teams midfield going missing at times which led to an entertaining second half. Kwesi missed an absolute sitter with a free header from a few yards out and then made up for it with a real strikers finish nipping in quickly to divert the ball in after a lay off from inside the box, the kind of goal an out and striker can score and that made the difference in the end. Yes Appiah missed a few others chance and we should have killed the game off, but we got the result in the end despite at times some sloppy defending as Barrow were ultimately not good enough to get back into the game.
Not our best performance, but a much better second half and good to win at home for the third time in a row. In a league like this it really is fine margins that can mean the difference between being near the bottom or the top as ultimately I don't think this is a particularly high quality league and anyone can beat anyone and often it's who gets the rub of the greenon the day.
Nice to be top half again and home winning clean sheets have been rare as rocking horse droppings so no complaints from me.
While it was more perspiration than inspiration I was pleased we didn’t let a grubby first half affect us too much. And we defended the lead Ok.
We know a squad overhaul is very likely now so let’s make the most of our time with these particular group of players who I think have mostly outperformed their wage budget standard
One of those where you come away and say “good three points”!!
First half we were very abject. We seem to have a compulsion to play head tennis or smash it as far as we can at the beginning of games and it makes no sense especially at home when the onus is on us to control the game.
I know we have players missing but if we play a system that has Nicholls and Kwesi as prt of a front three and a midfield that has the technical ability of Hutchinson Tilley and Ferry, I see little or no point in going long? Surely we’d be better suited to trying to utilise our front three with more quality than just aiming at Nadesans pace in behind?
We got considerably better second half and there seemed a concerted effort to try and play more football and it was no surprise then to see just how talented some of our players are.
Nicholls was much better second half as was Kwesi, although I felt he was a little off colour today if I’m honest. Hutchinson was excellent. Particularly second half.. If we can keep him next season I’d be very happy. He can run and he can pass and I think he has goals in him too.
The last 20 as has often been the case I saw is sit off and concede too much territory and it ended with Barrow having more possession and they could’ve nicked point which would’ve been a shame and hardly deserved.

I think that's a good summary.
Thought Hutchinson had his best game for us and was probably our best player. At first I didn't rate him at all, but he seems to be improving now, just a shame he will most likely go back to Derby to either be part of their squad in League One or be sold, he's finally starting to show some promise.
I was saying at the start of the game our game plan was pretty obvious again with the plan to get the ball forward early to Nadesan and to try and get him to run in behind. Nothing wrong with playing this kind of percentage football is fine when played well and it suits the players we've got, but we've got to mix it up play through the midfield sometimes and the midfield have to give more!
We've played better than the last 2 home games and lost, it's a funny game football!
