Can anybody tell me what credentials he has to be Director of Football? Its become quite clear from last nights press conference that he's in charge of the recruitment, especially with HK not appearing to have a clue whats going on with signings. The thing that concerns me is that he joined in 2016 as Director of Marketing. Director of Marketing to Director of Football is quite the change?
Having met Selim I think he is a thoroughly nice guy doing his best for Crawley.
I think he was shown up yesterday when Kewell gave him a ridiculous buck pass on player recruitment. I must say the whole episode has me worried over the recruitment strategy.
At the end of last season we started making decisions on retaining players, then fired the manager, then signed Bulman, is there some strategy there?
Selim always seems like a decent chap and to be fair, if he really is behind recruitment then you could argue he best thing about last season was, in some respects, our recruitment. Drummy didn't get the best out of them but on paper we got some decent players.
I do think it's a bit harsh thought to read too much into Kewell's inability to answer the recruitment question last night. How many of us on our first day of a job would be able to answer questions about the nitty gritty specifics? I imagine he will assess the squad and decide then how many players we need over the coming months. Of course the problem is that time is ticking...
So he's gone from director of marketing to director of football He seems like a nice guy and more hands on than Mr Eren, I get the impression that he is in charge of recruitment. IMO Harry should be in charge of recruitment, obviously the board members have to decide the budget, but it should be up to the manager to decide which players we are signing, not that I'm complaining at the signing of Bulman. If Selim can bring in some more players with the experience and quality of Bulman I will be very pleased, but the manager should have the final say.
I never used to be a fan of director of football as it was not really clear what that they did when you have a traditional manager in play. But how many seasons have I seen Crawley start with less than 2 or 3 retained players and new manager. The Watford model actually makes sense if you need to get rid of an underperforming manager you do not loose as much as before. The number of players we have with another year plus on there contract means we have a solid foundation add Bulman we are only looking for some full banks and depth. The fear is budget must be fairly tight to 5 or so quality additions. To be fair to both Selim and Eren we have improved in the last 12 months and form in the latter half felt correctly proportioned to the manager.

Improved??? Our conference winning team would wipe the floor with every team weve had since. We may be in a higher league status but quality has gone down.
