Just back. A few drinks on the pier before and after the game - very pleasant...and then we get to the game. Should have stayed on the pier.
First half we had Nadders and Tom up front and a host of trialists. Only two, the keeper and the one wearing 67 looked good enough. Poor quality throughout, a real pre-season friendly and played at a slow to full stop pace.
Never in any trouble, Eastbourne had about three shots in the game, all straight at the keeper. Not that we had many chances but we dominated possession. Nadders had a one on one but hit straight at the keeper and...err...that was about it.
Second half we changed pretty much the whole team and had Oteh (very strong, probably our best player), Dom and Kwesi up front. It was all us in the second except for the last ten mins when they won a couple of corners.
We dominated possession but it was mainly possession, side, side back without really troubling their goal.
The goal was extraordinary. Their keeper had the ball at his feet, Kwesi ran in to challenge, the keeper moved the ball to the side, Kwesi guessed right and the keeper tried a drag back. He made just enough contact with the ball to move it, slipped and it trickled over the line. I am sue Kwesi will claim it but I don't think he touched it.
All the defenders looked good, Payne and the front line in the second half.
I spoke wit the number 67 during the second half when he came off. He has been released by Brentford but us very excited about the direction the club is going in and hopes to show enough to get a contract.
Overall a great day out, ruined somewhat by the football! What did we learn? We were head and shoulders above Eastbourne and it was a good fitness exercise for the players.
