So, we have ditched (ie sacked) four managers this year. No, not this year...since July. Wagmi came in with a moneyball approach to the game that many here feel cannot be replicated in football but they have plodded on regardless. They have certainly worked wonders off the pitch - fantastic developments and improvements to the infrastructure, ticketing and the match day experience but on the pitch...
They appointed Chris Galley as the CEO/Director of Football. The problem is, he knows nothing about football. All he knows is stats and everything is stats based. He appears to have been given a free hand by Wagmi and he has made a complete Jeremy Hunt of it.
Tom Nichols being sold for peanuts to a relegation rival when he didn't want to leave is the final straw. Where we loaned out Glenn at the start of the season, nobody was happy - here's a stat for you Chris - when Glenn was loaned to Gillingham in August, again against his will, the responses on Twitter numbered around 120. When you sold Nichols the response was closer to 500 - all negative.
Galley has lost the fans and the players. Wagmi, who came in with a "we are always here, we are listening" motto appear to have gone to ground - nothing from them, no response on any internet platforms, no comments, no discussions, nothing. They have gone into hiding and seem to be refusing to meet with the fans' representatives and the Fans' Council, which they set up!
I don't blame Wagmi for this though - they put their hand up at the start and said they didn't know anything about football, so Galley has single headedly put us in this crisis. Demonstrations are being arranged the next few games and for me these should be directed at getting Galley out the club.
The issue is, even if Galley goes, they are likely to bring in another stats person rather than a football person.
GALLEY OUT!
NEW MANAGER'S RED ARMY!
