I keep clicking refresh on the OS, waiting for the announcement. A bit worried who we might be letting go. Letting some of our best players go out of contract so we can't get a fee for them doesn't make sense financially. Really hope we offer new deals to Corey, the Kelly brothers, Tsaroulla, Gordon etc. We have a good team who can do well in L1 if we keep them together.

Kelly brothers? Is that right? I hadn't heard that before.

Agreed, not a fan of wholesale changes and 12 players going with 12 coming in. As I said above, there are some who can be released, and others who are borderline, but some who - if their contracts are up - must be kept.

To be fair, at the piss up celebration at the Broadfield, they were wearing each other's matchday shirts.
It would be hard to see players like Tsaroulla,Ransom etc who have become bench warmers leave but we are a Div 1 side now and Lindsey will have no room for sentiment if we are to survive.

Letting decent (and fan favourite) players leave on a free transfer doesn't make sense to me. Add to the squad, in the areas that need strengthening, but don't get rid of people for the sake of it. Are we really going to find a better LWB than Tsaroulla? One we can afford anyway?
Speculation is pointless until they publish the retained list and we can see who we still have with us in L1. But we will still do it anyway
The big problem with the list is if the players whose contracts expire this year haven't yet agreed to a new deal, they will have to be included on the released list, even if we are still negotiating with them. This will look like we have let these players go, which won't necessarily be true but will attract other clubs and possibly better offers.
Yes you are both right. I didn't express it properly.
The key point I meant was that Wagmi said they would not even look at contracts until the end of the season. My issue was that if Wagmi had not yet offered those contracts, they would be listed as out of contract.

Never understood why our owners wouldn't look at new deals for out of contract players until the season's end. That's a bit slack of them. And I imagine they didn't expect us to actually make the play off final, so that's' another couple of weeks with no business getting done. We could end up losing some key members of our promotion winning team on free transfers. Which is inexcusable.
Not wishing to be too critical of our owners - they have kept us in business these past 2 years, and helped deliver the miracle of promotion to L1, so they have credit in the bank with me.
To be fair, although the list isn't announced until today, we don't know that we haven't already been working on deals for those that we're offering them to. I guess that conversely with that though, you wouldn't want to be making it clear to those you're not intending on retaining when you've got play-offs to win, wouldn't be good for team spirit/commitment. Saying that, I'm sure plenty of players must know before the end of a season if they're not being retained, but still give 100%.
They only have to tell the EFL which players they are releasing and still negotiating with- they don’t actually have to make it public at the moment
Yes, but this list of retained and released players is actually available to other teams in the EFL and presumably National League/Premier league etc, so other teams know who is available and who they can contact if they are interested.
The media a!so get these lists fairly quickly so it makes sense for the club to announce the list fairly quickly before someone else does. Crawley in the past have generally released their list to the public at the latest possible time, but they do release it.

Yes you would hope that the club has already agreed contracts with some players, but chosen not to announce the deals yet due to participating in the playoffs. As you say some players may have known they are not being retained, but will still give 100% due to the possibility of being needed ( their contracts usually expire in June).
