That is '6' Times this Season Scott has Praised the Team after Defeat this Season. Each Time - Pleased with the 'Players', Pleased with the 'Press', Please with the 'Work Rate'. We are sick of hearing it Scott. And just for the Record Scott, we did not play a Top2 League One Team Scott, because they started with 6 Fringe Players/Reserves Players. If you want to Boast, Boast Correctly Please. Do you think we are all idiots?
ON each of them '6' Occasions, the Defence has Dropped a 'Howler' and on each of them '6' occasions the Forwards have missed chances.
We all know the Midfield has done great this season, so just get '1' good defender & '1' good forward in the January Window and everyone will be happy, and Top7 becomes a Distinct Possibility. Without them 2 new players QUICKLY, there is no possibility!
If you mention the ''Good Press'' a SEVENTH Time this Season after another LOSS, I will be forced to throw the Chromebook across the Living Room. Please DONT!

I’m sure he looks at a few of his decisions and thinks, what the fook did I do that for?
But he clearly knows how to build a team, but more importantly, how not to ask too much of a squad that lack experience.
He made some bold decisions in binning experienced players in the summer to bring in basement league bargains and let’s be honest, turned them in to decent players.

Currently sitting in 11th.
Nothing but respect.
Yes, he took a group of players and made their sum greater than the parts. That is good management. He did this against a backdrop of having some of the established squad sold to other clubs - not entirely with his consent, I suspect.
Remember Brian Clough. He did the same at a higher level. He took a bunch of tier 2, average tier 1, (plus a couple of key signings). He then helped them to the title and to become European champions.
More recently, how about what Eddie Howe did at Bournemouth. After we beat a beleaguered Bournemouth, he took over and they went from near bottom to promotion and, eventually, to the Premier League. Okay, they did drop a division briefly but are now in the Premier League again. The sum was greater than the parts.
He's doing ok for us, but we could be doing so much better if he addressed the glaringly obvious problems we have, especially in defence.
How many games have we lost this season where we gifted goals to the opposition, otherwise we'd have probably won? We are throwing away points in L2, and cup runs, because he's still obsessed with possession for possession's sake, and passing it out from the back when we are no good at it.
The result at the end of the match is still the most important thing, not possession stats, or how many passes we made (usually to an opposition player ffs). We need wins. It does grate with fans when a team loses and a manager says 'we did really well out there today'. No Scott - we lost. We're out the cup.

Totally agree and hipope he takes this sort of advice as constructive criticism.
We do need to bear in mind has been in league management less than two years and i would assume he believes he has done well so far and the system he has used has worked.
However I do agree with Northgate one size doesn't fit all so come on Scott look at alternative ways of playing as well

Let's not forget, SL performed a minor miracle last season keeping us in the football league, massive credit to him for that. And this season he has got us scoring goals, playing attractive football at times, and looking a world away from where we were under Betsy. I definitely hope he stays with us long term.
But as others have said, we are still a work in progress, and it's often a case of one step forward, two steps back with this team. Just when performances and results are good, we go on a crappy losing run due to schoolboy errors that our defenders seem so fond of. What do we do in training? The defenders need to be allowed to hoof the ball out of danger, and not worry about passing it out from the back just to keep our possession stats up. I'd rather they concentrated on keeping our goals conceded stats down.
This style of play is coming from SL and the coaching staff. With it costing us matches, you'd think they'd be telling the lads that if it's a dangerous situation, to just clear the lines. Do a Joe Walsh and hoof it over the top of the fucking West Stand. But no, we piss around with it, pass it back to Corey when he's only just played it out himself. Play a hospital pass into a space with no Crawley player near it. Crazy stuff.
We are so easy to read. Teams have us sussed out, and know how to exploit our weaknesses. SL and the coaches need to address this, and have a plan B for when we are losing/under the cosh/struggling. We need a few new, more experienced players to boost our hopes of a good finish. A midfield battler, cover for the FBs/WBs, a big striker who can hold the ball up...... I don't think we are going to get them in this transfer window sadly. Probably some PL academy kids in on loan again. And any crocks Swindon want shot of
A mid-table finish beckons, which is brilliant as far as I'm concerned. But we could be looking at top ten if a few changes were made. Maybe next season.

Gifting goals to the opposition and stray passes......... On a serious note, I wonder if some of our players may be colour blind?

Totally agree with this and your subsequent comment too. I do worry that Scott stll does not seem to have learned that he needs a Plan B when coming up against the more experienced managers and teams which have worked out how we play. He needs different ideas sometimes. I notice in this interview, he talked about wanting to score again, after we scored which is fine, but you still need to be able to defend too, one thing we get wrong time and time again. It is clear from this season, it is not Corey's fault, it is the passing around the back mentality which the management have drummed into the team, that they can't defend differently.
Notwithstanding this Scott has done a great job with an inexperienced team and we are playing great football at times, but a few results like Gillingham where we ground out a result even though we had least possession and not best team, would be good. Until we can change our style when needed, and defend a lot better, I fear we won't challenge the playoffs.

Could not agree more we need to mix it up sometimes play out from the back other times go long with idea of keeping the opposition guessing. We have lost around 6 matches playing out from the back and giving to ball away resulting in a goal. Teams let us tippy tapy it about while they have a rest because we are not damaging them all it does is put the possession stat up and when i last looked you don't get any points for it. Sort it out SL.

I also could not agree more. But please Scott no more ''Great Press'' when we lose again this season. Scott you proved yourself to be a Great Scout on the Cheap, you have created a Great Midfield by League Two Standards (remember them Josh Wright/Hess etc etc days - Oh my God, I do), but Please get 1 more Good Defender on Board and 1 more Good Striker Onboard. The Midfield is 10 times better than it was, you have done a Great Job on the Midfield, Kelly (Class Act for Lge 1/Lge2), Gladwin (Class Act when not injured for Lge 2), Lolos (Potentially Class Act for Lge 1 Standard), Darcy (good on the ball - not so good off the ball), Roles (could be good but unproven still), Wright (a steady lge midfielder), Tsaroulla (class act at Lge 1/Lge standards), Gordon (class act at lge 2 standards going forward, defensively not so good).
There is no right or wrong way to play football, some teams will be possession based (Notts County, MK Dons, ourselves as examples) and some that are very direct (such as Salford, Bradford City, Sutton as examples) striking the balance between the two styles is not easy. Most fans tend to be happy if the team wins, whether it’s passed or smashed. If you lose playing possession, fans shout get it forward, if you lose smashing it fans shout pass it 🤷🏼♂️
The club/SL has chosen to go down the possession based style and signed players accordingly. The problem with that is that when teams press us high and we can’t get out and are forced to go long we don’t have the players suitable to gain much success from it as we don’t have a big target man or real pace to get in behind teams.
But the flip of that in terms of being a long ball side is that when you go long it’s the toss of a coin who comes out with the ball, because the minute you smash it in the air it’s a 50/50 ball. It’s basically a percentages game where you might smash 10 balls forward and hopefully get in behind or hold it up 2-3 times in that 10, you don’t have any control of the game as such.
SL I would suggest does not hold the purse strings or have much control of it so I’d suggest he can only work with what he has got or what he has been given in terms of players.
The recruitment in the summer would suggest the budget isn’t great based off their CVS and where they have come from. (Fortunately many have actually surprised many of us and performed well in some games but perhaps haven’t been consistent enough week in week out, which possibly indicates why they were in non league in the first place).
Given time, experience and coaching they may achieve more consistent levels of play for the clubs benefit but time and patience/support will be needed.
As the days pass I do fear that the cavalry isn’t coming over the hill to support and improve the existing squad. I think three players have departed (Swyer, Henry, Ashby-Hammond) and only Sandford has come in, so in affect we are currently weaker in terms of bodies. While I understand transfer window deals often get done last minute so some may arrive, with each day passing and recognising the lack of a competitive top end budget, I’m not holding my breath as to how many new players either in quantity or quality arrive.
Therefore I still believe a realistic finishing position for us this season is somewhere between 9th and 14th with us continuing to impress some days and achieve good victories combined with some poor days and defeats which would follow our recent trend of results.
Overall this would still be a big improvement on last season. The question will come then as to next season and whether the tools are there to kick on again or whether we go stale and backwards which often happens when you can’t move forwards.
Football is such a simple game. Just play to your strengths.
There’s no point in trying to emulate Manchester City by playing out from the back. There is a reason as to why our players are playing in League 2 and not the Premier League.
