I thought that was a lot better performance than Morcambe game. J Kelly looks a good signing. Neither side created much. At least we have started to move the ball out of defence quicker.
The referee clearly saw the incident as he booked their player. He was not strong enough as a person to send him off as it happened in the 3rd minute. If he had made that tackle in the 25th minute I am sure he would have sent him off. Terrible decision from a weak man. That tackle could have caused serious injury. Later in the game he booked Corey for time wasting. Later we broke away and got in a good attacking position when their defender fell to his knees holding his head. The ref stopped the game allowing their defence to regroup then restarted with a drop ball. Replay showed playacting from defender.

Re what you said about the play acting when we had a chance of an attack on, I just watched a post match interview with their manager.
The interviewer and Lee Bell discussed our obvious acts of “gamesmanship” in the first half.

You couldn’t make that shit up
If it worked, all credit to them. We need to become more focused on winning whatever it takes
Yes, the foot was off the ground, but not as high as some reds, and he did lead with the studs. On the flip side, it wasn't at speed nor completely out of control. Also, although the second foot came in straight after the first, it wasn't a two-footed challenge in the way I would understand it. My view is that it was closer to a red than a yellow, and I've seen them given more often than not. I can see why the ref didn't give it, but I think most officials would have.
As clear a red as you’ll see all season. Ref bottled it.
As SL said in his interview, he’s actually an experienced ref.
Time to retire methinks and maybe push trolleys around at Tescos on a Saturday instead, otherwise someone will end up badly hurt on the pitch by his negligence and incompetence.

To me blaming a ref is always a cheap shot. They aren't always great but they try their best

Today wasn’t a mistake like getting an offside call wrong or missing a hand ball , this was a dangerous and reckless tackle done at speed.
It’s needs to be called out for what it is.
If that’s his best, then it isn’t good enough.
Skirting round the issue by giving them the benefit of the doubt just because they try their best just allows refs like him to remain in a job and carry on bringing down the standards of refs in our league.
Hopefully SL draws attention to this incident in his match ref feedback report as I’m sure he will.
Not a fan of VAR but incidents like this make me think it’s worth a pop in L2
