Yes, quite possibly. Although it was only for about a year, he was actually a world champion in his field - and an Olympic medal winner too, although bronze. At the time, many, including myself, thought he was robbed in the semi-final by a bad judging decision. I've looked at it again in more recent years and am not so sure in the cold light of day. It was much closer than I saw it at the time.
