He saved us last season imho and we retained our league status. Start of this season and being EVERYONE's favourite for relegation, he'd assembled a squad of mostly inexperienced players and we got off to a good start with some good results. A little bit hit and miss after that, but recently great form and back in the play-off mix, and especially considering the distraction of a possible move to Gillingham he's kept our season going. Listening to his interviews, he always seems to be realistic in his assessments and generally supportive of the players. He also has a genuine regard for the fans. So, despite the opinion of some re his tactics, team selection and who plays where, I think without him we'd be screwed. Thanks Scott for all you've done, and I hope will continue to do.

His style of play has taken a little while for me to understand. He knows what he wants and will not change from that. What amazes me is that all the payers he brings on fit in perfectly and know there role. Today he made 3 substitutions at the same time and they all fitted in perfectly. Thanks Scott and all the back room staff for all you are doing.

From Messiah to very naughty boy, and back to the Messiah again.
Thanks for creating this thread backofthenet, as what you’ve said, needed saying.
If anyone has read any of my previous posts , I’ve been one of SL’s biggest fans even when things weren’t going so well.
I think he’s a gem and we’re lucky to have him.
Sometimes I wonder where we’d be in the table if he had access to even half of the funds other bigger clubs in this league have to spend on players. Much higher up, is the obvious answer.
It’s clear we’d be nowhere near our current league position without the style of play he’s introduced, without him and the staff making non-league players in to EFL players or without his nous and hard work.
He ain’t perfect, but he’s just the man we needed to bring us out of the mess we were in last season by saving us from relegation, then making us far stronger the following year on a shoestring budget.
A big improvement on Betsy and Etherington for sure. It has been a bit like Betsy at times this season and the passing style hasn’t always worked out, but we’ve got the right players to play this style whereas Betsy had no idea how to build a team. It felt like he thought he could just turn up here and play Premier League style football with lower league and youth team players. Scott has had a more pragmatic approach and it has led to better results.
I think he came in at a difficult time last season with all what went on with the previous managers, with a struggling league position and disenchanted crowd with the owners. He stabilised things and gradually got a good proportion of the fans onside. The Hartlepool game I think created a feel good factor in a poor season and the team stayed in the football league, the most important fact of the poor season.
I think everybody was worried over the summer, none of us know the wage bill or what the budget is but I don’t think it takes a genius to work out it’s less than last season. Everybody tipped us to finish bottom and let’s be honest a lot of us probably did if truth be told!
It was clear even in pre season that a different playing style was being put in place and despite the fact at times over the season many have questioned it, myself included, I don’t think we can ignore it’s also given us some great games to watch.
Players have developed over the season including the much maligned Addai, Lolos and Forster were perhaps used sparingly initially and over the season their minutes on the pitch have increased, like they have been coached and moulded into EFL players and not rushed and despite the limited minutes for Mukena even I feel he has shown up well in the various cup games and did a sterling job on Saturday when he came on. Then when you consider Orsi has been a bit part player at a few other clubs, he is now our leading scorer and also high up in the league scoring charts. All this would intimate the coaching team are doing more right than wrong on the training pitch.
To have just 11 games to go and be in with a shot at the play offs is a huge improvement!
Does Scott get everything right, perhaps not, but for a relatively new league two manager it’s hard to argue with the job he has done and you would question with the limited resources I’m not sure how many managers with more experience would have done much better if at all
Let’s see where we finish at the end of April or who knows…….May……Keep believing
