The clubs accounts have just been published, and are available from companies house. Whilst i have not seen them i expect that they will give some clues as to why we may have to sell Collins.
Not sure really.
They are a year old, so largely from the HKP era although they do show Eren had put £1m into the club (mostly loans). I suppose if he wanted the loans repaying then there might be pressure to sell.
However they also show we made a profit of £14,000 in the season, so not exactly a crisis position.
Isn't that the reality for most smaller clubs though; that other than a storming cup run that earns a fortune the only way you can balance the books and recoup any decent sum is by selling a star player for good profit and recruiting well?
With the attendances we get it is always going to be difficult to compete financially with the bigger clubs.

Trouble is it is a vicious circle because unless with a rich owner say, we are able to keep our stars our attendances will not go up enough to allow us to keep our stars and the downward spiral continues! Cannot see us being able to buy a comparable forward to JC in this country unless there is a (risky) gem in non league who can step up, or maybe Selim has another player in the Dutch League or elsewhere overseas?
it about improving the team. if the transfer proceeds are re invested we can probably get three decent players having lost one and improve the overall squad. Goals might come from one player if we are lucky with recruitment or a number of players. Dont forget 8 of collins goals were penalties. I think the team can cover his goals its his work rate we will miss.

I fully agree, but this isn't a problem limited to this level of football either - Porto, Southampton, even Borussia Dortmund to an extent have used developing and selling for large profit as the way to balance to books and ensure they can compete going forwards by replacing 1 player with 3/4 others.
That is why the couple of signings we have made so far are risky, but also potentially lucrative, because if they come in and do well we could sell on for potentially good profit...if not then we haven't spent outside our means to acquire them.
Why would Selim have a lot to answer for? if Collins is leaving it certainly won't be a decision made by him alone. If it's true that ZE has actually put £1m into the club from his own pocket then he has every right to take some back out again, especially considering his bank balance is dependent on the steel business, hardly a profit making area in the last year or two. Personally I'd be surprised if the amount agreed in any possible transfer is made public anyway, which I believe is very much the norm nowadays
Why? Because it's quite clear he's in charge of everything squad and football related. His title is Director of Football. He would've been doing the negotiations. Surely you must understand £250k is undervaluing our most valuable asset? 26 years old, 2 years left on contract. The club owes Mr Eren money, we could've made more from this transfer to reduce that debt.
We may all think/hope that he's worth more than £250k, but the sad truth is that if the club need to sell him then he's only worth what the market will pay, just like any other business asset

But you get one group saying we might be selling because we need the money to repay Ziya, in which case it (or not enough of it) will not be available to strengthen and then in your case you think three players will do the trick! Obviously depends on who we get but assume it will not be of JC calibre. I personally think we still needed 3 decent players even with Collins as we still have lots of deadwood (Arthur, Tajbaksh maybe Clifford, Payne if not fitter) which we dont know if they are staying or going. Not sure with the current squad why you think we can cover the loss of our only goalscorer as for the last three years our goalscoring record has been pretty appalling from anybody apart from our main striker. It stems alot from the fact that for the last three years our shots/shots on target numbers have been pretty much the worst in the league we have been in! Maybe HK can address this and get our midfield and wide players to "have a go" alot more.

According to the Bedfordshire on Sunday website, dated yesterday, the transfer has been held up for an unknown reason but thought to be that Crawley are holding out for more money than originally agreed

Ok so it's been confirmed. Let's get someone in who actually wants to be at the club. I wish we had tried to get Ricky Miller from Dover. Surprised he went to Peterborough.
the cynic in me says they will sell him saturday on Monday after the deadline for reduced season tickets passes
the deadly silence from the club on this matter is an issue for me - come out and be honest is JC going or not, they don't need to disclose transfer fee to us but at least let us know whats going on and if they have a replacement lined up - again they don't need to disclose what player if any but some transparancy would be welcomed.
Not a great surprise really. You only have to look at his career moves to see loyalty isn't his middle name.
Clearly he wanted to leave, and presumably the club decided to take the cash. Why did he want to go - who knows. Strange that a player who has signed for clubs like Swindon, Hibernian and Crawley suddenly feels a need to be near his home.
Perhaps he saw the way things were going over the summer and decided Crawley Town just weren't walking the talk.
Either way the next couple of weeks are looking critical. Take a relegation quality squad, sell the best player, add in a 38 year old midfielder, a promising but untried youngster and someone released from Dutch div 2 and it doesn't look great really.
I must be honest, when I saw HK's first conference I had my doubts, they aren't really being eased by this.

The club rejected a bid from them at the beginning of the month. Collins asked the club to reconsider. He wanted to be closer to his fiancé and son, which I'm sure anyone can understand. The three year contract obviously works in the clubs favour as we can demand more from him. If we continued to reject the offers, would he have refused to play for us?

Family commitment now - as he said in his farewell - you can't argue about that - probably couldn't afford to move the family to the South East
