Nice to see that we now actually have a positive goal difference for the first time since god knows. If we were more deadly in front of goal in earlier games this season we would be sitting in the play offs, just saying
Very good point FNB & with that in mind - Ollie Palmer might disagree - it is a positive that we are starting to share the goals around and actually scoring from central play.
The first half seemed like two average teams with no real quality, however the 2nd half we came out and clearly stepped up a gear we started to over run them in key areas and none of this pass it out from the back rubbish we have grown accustomed too a great first goal and nice to see a direct goal for the 2nd
If we can score more goals i see no reason why we can't maintain our position or even improve on it.
Morecambe offered very little and i haven't changed my mind about them finishing in the bottom 2 they have a serious amount of work to do if they are going to avoid the drop the next 4 games for them are vital playing mid to lower end sides
....and much to the disgrace of my mates, I included Crawley in my accumulator and we won, we normally lose.
First half very disappointing. No structure, a lot of headless chicken impressions, no tactical pattern that I could see. Fortunately Morecambe were the same. Second half better but still no perceived tactics that I could discern. I know that HK tactics were painful to watch but at least we could see what was going to happen. We looked as though we were trying to do things from a counter attack rather than a patient build-up.
I wait to see how the tactics pan out. Great individual goals, especially ANG, and what a fantastic save from Glen. We all thought it was going in from where we were.
Forest Green are going to be another team though, a lot more resilient.
Not there as at other end of the country but sounds from comments on here we are now going to teach the players completely opposite (kick and rush) which would be crazy. Hopefully when Cioffi settles in we can mix up proper football with some hoofball, much as we did under Lardy, and that worked quite well?

Would agree with this. First half it was like we'd gone from one extreme to the other and were too much hoofball. Morecambe looked very poor and we should have had the confidence to get the ball down and play through them. It'll take time for Cioffi to get his ideas across, so can't judge based upon one game.
It was good to see us score a goal and then not sit deep for a change though. Once we got the second we were happy to keep the ball and control the match to the end. Good start from Cioffi and he has something to build on.
If there's a few bob in the coffers in January I think we should have a punt at signing Morecombes 24 Joe Piggott, who until he was subbed probably so he wouldn't get sent off was for me by far and away their best player always wanting the ball great control and a big physical lad, he could be a snip if Morecambe are still struggling.

Kick & rush is unfair Mick, we varied it but i don't think anyone wants to see a no-thrills centre-back like Bonzo impersonating Mats Hummel.
The big difference was more mobility in our forward style with players running beyond a very effective Palmer. We not only carried the ball, but for the 1st time in yonks we didn't just consign it to the wings.

Good to hear Thad, as I wasn't there I cannot comment on the style but was basing it on comments on hear that we had ditched the passing out from defence which if done properly and moved forward quickly I could never see a problem with? What I don't want to see is I just getting it forward quickly with a long ball from the centre backs and just giving up possession cheaply. Get them to give it more quickly to midfield for them to do the fancy stuff, and yes mix it up with the odd long ball (Like "The Cat" and his set up for the second goal) and I will be a happy man!

Spot on Mick.
I wasn't there either so can't comment on the style but you are right - done properly, keeping possession and playing out from the back is very attractive. The players need to understand how to make the system work though and lot depends on their decision making. The transitions from defence to midfield and midfield to the strikers are essential to get right.

GABRIELE CIOFFE's RED ARMY!
Thats the problem passing out from the back was never going to be done properly with the players we had we wasted far to much time playing it out from the back only to be put under pressure by the opposition HK didn't understand we are Crawley Town not Arsenal who arguably haven't done it that well this season either.
I have been told by someone inside the club that Gaby Cioffi sat the players down examined the passing out from the back and told them none of this s**t ever again so clearly he was in agreement with many that it doesn't work at this level

As usual the truth lies somewhere in between. The opposition will set up to disrupt your style of play. The more variety & options you have, the more difficult their task becomes.
I felt that under Harry we were predictable, attacks invariably came down the flanks. One of the reasons KAG was a big success was his ability to cut inside & swing his right peg while the opposition had set up to deal with a cross from the wings.
The key to playing out from the back is inventive movement off the ball, without that we are just creating pressure on ourselves.
