I wasn't there either so can't comment on the style but you are right - done properly, keeping possession and playing out from the back is very attractive. The players need to understand how to make the system work though and lot depends on their decision making. The transitions from defence to midfield and midfield to the strikers are essential to get right.
GABRIELE CIOFFE's RED ARMY!
Thats the problem passing out from the back was never going to be done properly with the players we had we wasted far to much time playing it out from the back only to be put under pressure by the opposition HK didn't understand we are Crawley Town not Arsenal who arguably haven't done it that well this season either.
I have been told by someone inside the club that Gaby Cioffi sat the players down examined the passing out from the back and told them none of this s**t ever again so clearly he was in agreement with many that it doesn't work at this level
I don't agree at all that it isn't possible at our level to bring the ball out from the back in a more controlled way than just lumping it forward (and invariably giving up possession straightaway) , but a lot to do with instructing the defence in getting it moving forward to the midfield quicker rather than fannying around passing it across the backline like they do in the PL. Will be a shame if the players don't incorporate some of this in the new mans thinking, otherwise we just lurch from one style to another, surely this was Selim's thinking when Cioffi was appointed?

Don't we now have 6 points from 6 by not passing the ball out in a slow and methodical way from the back? so i am all for getting the ball into the midfield quickly, there really wasn't much hoofball in the game 1 exception was the goal though so all things considered the new tactics are working
I think you are both making the same point in slightly different ways.
I am very much in favour of playing out from the back and playing possession football but decision making is everything - the players need to understand when and how to do it - last season there was a world of difference between the theory (good) and the execution (too often, bad). Playing out from the back depends on transitioning the ball quickly and not relying on the tactic at all costs but knowing the difference between when to keep possession and those occasions when a good old fashioned clearance is needed.
I truly hope, as Mick says, we don't lurch back to the Sunday league, neanderthal, lump the ball forward and hope for the best tactics.

I said a "controlled way" which you seem to have turned into "slow and methodical". It doesn't have to be slow for a defender to move the ball forward to the midfield (rather than sideways and backwards) who should always be looking to make space to receive the ball?

Like i said we did very little of this in the last 2 games and got 6 points from 6 so i'm happy with the improved style of play but each to their own we all have our own opinions
