Makes my blood boil that we replaced James Collins with Thomas Van shxxx.
The self famed Crawley Town recruitment dept have played a blinder.
James Collins wouldn't have needed replacing if he hadn't put James Collins first and jumped ship, the club are better off without selfish assholes like him
Of course it was within the club's ability to hold him to the remaining 2 years of his contract...but we didn't. Cue all the cliches about 'no point retaining an unhappy player' blah blah.

I'm not sure what's "blah blah" about it, if you refuse to let a player go who has an agenda to leave then what sort of effort do you think he's going to put in? Collins didn't want to stay because Crawley didn't meet his aspirations and threw the "I miss the family" twaddle in as a 'reason', lucky for him he's a footballer and not in the Forces

Another point that has not been made is that perhaps we needed the money. Giving out 3 year contracts to other players also helps to ensure we get a fee if another club shows interest.

Bigger club, better run, more money, chance of promotion........ what on earth possessed Collins to leave us for Luton???
Selfish? No. Player doing the best for his career and his family? Yes.
I thought we were all moving on from Collins leaving, guess I was wrong.

Collins signed a contract and then ripped it up after just one year, would you be happy for clubs to do the same? I can just imagine the stampede to sue employers if they behaved in the same way as employees

That's urban myth. He is a professional footballer and would have done his job. The bit about aspirations is nonsense, the club's aspirations haven't changed that much in a year. Remember a year ago Collins wasn't exactly flavour of the month after his behaviour at Cheltenham and we gave him a decent commitment on good wages.
People said the same about Coutinho, Van Dijk, Sanchez etc....didn't stop Sanchez scoring a screamer in the Champs League last week did it.
It's about time football club Chairman showed some backbone.
As for the 'we needed the money' argument, well that will seem a bit lame if we are playing National League football next season. And we haven't exactly invested it well, have we, bearing in mind the wage bill has also increased by 20% this season.
He arrived here in the middle of a family crisis (of some sort), he was not fit enough for the football league (but that can be addressed) and then he got injured in the check a trade trophy game (in which he shouldn't really have played). What must he be thinking about his move to Crawley? He probably thinks it's cursed and then he gets slagged off by all the pundits behind a keyboard.
He is a lump of a striker so if we play to his strengths he could well be a good acquisition for us.

He ripped it up??? Hardly!! He didn't even hand in a transfer request!! Surely the first move came from Luton, making a bid for him.

He may not have actually carried out the physical act of ripping up his contract but he certainly ripped up the tarmac to get out of Crawley, I fail to see why anyone shows any loyalty to Collins as he damned well didn't show any to Crawley
Some of the comments on here are absolutely embarrassing. The guy has played THREE league games in English football, and he's written off already.
We've got him for three years, he's obviously had a difficult start for a number of reasons; but why don't we get behind him to help him realise his potential instead of laying into him at any given opportunity?
There can't be a fan base out there that is as quick to turn on their own as Crawley are.
The lad must have something about him or he wouldn't have been spotted and taken on by anyone. Let's be straight talking here,You really don't have to be that good to make an impact at this level of football. If Thomas gets himself as fit as he can and finds a little bit of nastiness then he will do just fine for us.

Tubbs left after a season and a half, don't see him being accused of ripping up contracts.

Didn't Tubbs get sold for £800,000,whilst Collins went for a fraction of that.Although the money for Tubbs most likely ended up in someone's pocket it was still an offer the club couldn't turn down. Can we really say we got as much as we should have for Collins?
