if it was me which we all know it never will be i would like to see a back four of
LB DOHERTY RB CONNOLLY CB BONDZ CB MCNERNEY
That will enable Vincelot to sit in front of the back four and allow Camara and the other midfielders to push on knowing we have adequate cover, this would also allow Connolly and or Doherty to push forward and then Vincelot can sit back to make a back 3 when we are on the attack
I really don't see Conns as a wing back. Play Young there. Bondz and Big Joe at CB. See how that works. Doherty/Maguire at LB. Tough on Connolly but a spell on the bench might focus him to cut out the mistakes for when he gets back in the side. We're just not good enough to play a back three successfully. So stick with a back four with Bulman or Vincelot as DM.

Connolly wont be playing as a wing back in that formation as its a 4-4-2 but should one of the LB or RB push forward Vincelot can slot in if we lose the ball
Connolly was very effective as a RB when we had Walsh McFadzean and Sadler in our back 4 a fair few seasons back so no reason why he can't play in that position now
we miss Smith massively the only problem is he seems to always get injured and misses the busy xmas period, however this year its most of the season which is gutting
Connolly did do ok as a right back but with 3 very solid defenders playing alongside him, that is not the case now. I think it is a bit concerning that our best defender was without a club and has played for the last 2 years in non-league. When we first signed him I assumed he would be back up but due to inconsistency of the other 3 centre backs he is now pretty much first choice because he is big, strong and can defend first and foremost.

3 others covering for Connelly's blunders more like.
The issue is not really Vincelot who I think it's much of a muchness between him and Connolly and McNerney, it's more about Bondz and getting another big League Two centreback in the January window. Cioffi has to make do til then and as a Serie A centreback himself I expect him to get the combinations right more often than not
