John Yems has spoken post match; bluntly blaming the inadequate player budget for the present form, in that he cannot bring in player's of maturity, quality and substance. The owner needs to invest more of his steel money, if he is really serious about this project.
This is another strange comment from Yems to start blaming the quality of the players we’ve got when this was largely the same squad of players that finished 12th last season and got to the 4th round of the FA cup beating Leeds United. Only 2 of 11 players that started the match yesterday weren’t here last season.
I agree with Alex, yet again more excuses for not bothering to set up a team with a clear tactical plan in mind. Why were we resorting to hoofing it up when we clearly don't have the players to be able to do that?
It's those kinds of things as well as the results why I feel we need to pull the trigger soon if we're to stay out of relegation trouble, as if we get down there I cannot trust Yems at all to motivate these players for it
To be honest this is all guesswork. For example there ARE parachute payments, for 2 years. Also these days most clubs have provisions to reduce wages on relegation. Plus I believe the club is largely debt free, so a different situation to say Southend.
Also if ZE decided to sell up, wouldn't it depend who bought it?
Like you I believe there are 2 worse clubs in the division, and JY will get enough points on the board. In that sense we aren't in a much different position to when Paul Hayward stepped back.
Interesting to hear JY talking after the game about the budget and having to sign boys not men. Maybe there are tensions there, because the squad is not small and perhaps the balance between quality and quantity is wrong. Or perhaps John is not signing the players.....
love to see this evidence based backed up yes all possible that payments e.g. in contracts can be renegotiated upon relegation but again all guesswork.
Well its fact that there are parachute payments. If uou need evidence the FL could provide it.....

Thanks happy to be corrected if wrong - I Wasn't aware that was the case. Be interested to know any Stattos out there how many teams have come back up within a season or two and arguably gained from that payment.

Yems wont go because the club cant afford to let him go and replace him. Despite some fans being unhappy until we see scenes like at Brighton today where fans are booing at the end I very much doubt Yems will move on. We only need 2 wins on the trot and all these points dropped will be largely forgotten. The only way that'll change is if Yems scores an OG and starts having a go at fans. That WILL then be the end of him.
I heard a few boos at the end of yesterdays game, and pretty much everyone around my area was disgruntled by what we'd seen. Yems has had two years in the job too so it's not like he's barely had much time like Drummy and Yates had, and if we can't afford to pay Yems off the rest of his contract then I worry a lot about our finances (considering we sold a player for a million quid this calendar year)

We need to get real - we are a club that are doing as expected. We would love to do better but given the calibre of the squad Yems doesn't deserve to put up with this level of criticism. How many managers have we had over the last few years and none of them has done any better - he's kept the club afloat with some astute signings and his press conferences are a joy to watch! At beginning of season clubs target was to survive in league 2 - we are exceeding that in my mind - not pretty or always nice to watch but that's reality. I pay my money and yearn for a better style, a better team and better results and probably moan as much as anybody else - why cant we cross, where's the midfield, why no left back, where was Frost for last two games, what's up with Nicholls etc etc but at end of the day we are what we are and losing Yems would just start another meaningless cycle that would take us to back to where we are today - lets trust the guy. His passion shines through, he is committed and wants to succeed. The team try hard and do their best, we need to accept that we aren't a top league 2 team and take the good times when they come but not panic when things look a bit bleak.

Don't know if it's just me but I find some of the press conferences excruciating to watch when he either starts having a go at fans that pay his wages effectively through ticket sales or just repeats what he said the previous game like a broken record ('we can't defend', 'we have injuries', 'we don't have any money' etc), it makes me cringe in the same way as watching a bad X Factor audition would do. I don't expect us to get anywhere near playoffs at all but for the amount of money I've paid for the season ticket I expect better quality football than the rubbish we have had so far, it is just so boring to watch aimless hoofs up the field or constant sideways and backwards passing. This is the main reason why our attendances have been getting worse as the season's gone on too, and I can't see any way people might start to come again unless a change is made soon, as god it is just so depressing to watch (and I remember how poor some of the Cioffi era was too but didn't find that quite as bad personally).
The press interviews may have been funny the first couple of times but if it keeps happening there's a reason why other clubs' fans take the mickey out of us for having a manager that conducts himself like he has done on a few occasions. Plus with the squad we have compared to some other teams we shouldn't be aiming for just 22nd in the league, and with a decent manager in this league anyone can get promoted (look at Morecambe last season as well as Sutton and Harrogate this term).

why dont you provide all the evidence as you seem to know better

At a guess - Leyton Orient were the last club.
so just one and they have a bigger fan base so not much use then these payments.

Cheltenham did it not long ago and their gates at the time weren’t too much bigger than ours. As I understand it, they gambled and threw a lot of money at it and may well have been in a bit of trouble had that gamble not succeeded. That is purely hearsay though.

I think you would be right to be worried. Average gates 2,265 this season. Ignore any season ticket discounts, complimentaries, kids, seniors etc and assume everyone pays £20 per game - that's £45,000 a game x 23 league games is just over £1m a season. Say you add in £250k of commercial and cup income (probably over the top) = £1.25m a season.
We have to pay players and staff 52 weeks a year so that's £24,000 a week before any other costs/overheads.
Bdearing in mind for best part of a season there was no gate money at all, I doubt the Watters money touched the sides on its way down, assuming the million came up front which I also doubt.

Yep, and Erdem acknowledged at the forum that the standard in National League wasn't much different to L2. By sticking to 2 up/2 down some big clubs have ended up in the NL.

Yes, and lower than that. There are quite a number of former League clubs in National League North.

£24,000 x 52 = £1,248,000 so just going by your calculations I estimate that nearly all of the income that the club receives (apart from player sales) is spent on staff wages, obviously football clubs are very different to your normal business as it is very hard to make a profit and achieve sustainable success on the pitch unless you are one of the 'big 6' clubs with a huge global following. This means that the money from the Watters sale would have potentially covered most of the revenue lost from lack of fans in the ground last season, however as you point out I reckon there are probably performance clauses and sell on fees included as part of the deal as those are very commonplace in modern football nowadays, especially when it involves young players, so I doubt we have actually received a million pounds just yet from that.
I haven't got a clue to be honest exactly how much each player and the manager is on at the moment but if say Yems was to be sacked this week, I feel the amount it would cost to pay him off for the rest of his contract (which finishes in 2023) could then be covered easily by getting the likes of German, Burnett and Curtis-Henry who won't ever get a first team game off the wage bill. Also think there will be at least a short term increase in matchday revenue as a result as some casuals would be tempted to come just to see what has changed and if it's any better, as I definitely think the quality of football, poor results and Yems' attitude towards fans is putting off quite a few casuals from coming. Getting rid of the extra charge for buying tickets on the day will help a lot too, for example I think I'd be more willing to bring friends down from my current uni if that didn't apply, as well as sorting out the ridiculously slow service at the matchday catering
Off topic slightly, I've seen Khaleel has gone to King's Langley on loan as I saw on Twitter he was playing for them at the weekend, why the club didn't say anything about that I have not got a clue. It was the same when Alfie Jones went out on loan earlier as well and think it's not good enough that we haven't been told about these moves
