I don't think it gets any better than that. A tactical masterclass from Yems, who got every call spot on...and still people raise questions!
If we had come away with a five or six one win I don't think anyone could have complained. The highlights don't even begin to do the total dominance justice. Make no mistake, this is about as much dominance you can achieve in a match.
Leyton Orient were in superb form, especially at home and had scored four goals in each of their last three home games. To win so comprehensively against such a good team, to nullify and negate not only their goal threat but they supply lines show that not only did we do our homework but Yems knew how to counter it.
All over the pitch you could see man to man marking against their better players and a quick, fast press.
We started so well that I was sure there was no way we could keep the intensity of our play up. We looked dangerous every time we attacked and in contrast, it was 25 mins before they had their first attempt on goal.
We could have (should have) been two goals ahead before we scored. Tilley rounded the keeper, stumbled, dithered and allowed the keeper and defenders to get back in time. A real chance.
Not as good though as Nadesan's chance. A super fast break from their corner and Nadesan was through on the keeper. Instead of his usual dink, he tried to find the far corner and just missed.
Then the goal. Framcome sent a raking pass up the right, their left back didn't miss the ball as some accounts state. He got a touch which slowed the ball enough for Archie to catch it on the right. He cut back to Francombe who thumped the ball home at the keeper's near post.
HT 0-1 but should have been three or four.
They came out firing for the second half as we expected and pushed us hard for the first 15 mins, aided by the referee who seemed to forget we were on the pitch (otherwise I thought the referee was excellent, especially with their goalkeeper's stupidity with Ludo's injury).
Tom Nicks was clearly fouled at the start of the move that led to their goal. The referee even moved the whistle to his mouth but didn't blow. Ludo missed the through ball (he missed one other ball but otherwise was outstanding and left Harry Smith as a spectator), their player lofted a ludicrously overhit cross that unfortunately for Glenn hit the post, then his back and in.
A few minutes later, we retook the lead. Francombe again set the chance up with a strong drive, Nadesan crossed low, it was missed by our first player and two of their defenders and kwasi was there to side foot home. Cue pandemonium and scenes in the away end.
We were happy to allow them more possession for the rest of the game and still had another two or three presentable chances and looked more likely to score (especially Reece when he came on).
What a game, what a performance,what a result!
Super proud of the team, Yems, the coaching and scouting staff and the fans. I haven't enjoyed a game that much for a long time.
There were no weaknesses in the team. The three CBs worked extremely well together, we controlled the midfield and looked dangerous. If I say that Nadesan had a great game that about sums it up.
Man of the match for me was George Francombe, simply outstanding, with Tommy Nicks, Archie, Kwasi, Tony Craig and Tilly pushing him close.
