Scunthorpes GK was the man of the match. Three saves he made were exceptional. Sometimes perception of a performance is, immediately after a game, driven by emotion based on the scoreline and sometimes the scoreline doesn’t reflect the performance. Positively (FG) or negatively (Scunthorpe).
Another stats person. Be careful people don't think you are somebody else. I do agree with you view that emotion plays a part and often a last minute goal to save a gave feels like a win when all it is is a draw or vice versa. However, today was a poor performance against a team that loses most of its games and one we should be winning whatever the stats say.. I agree we had our chances but if they were a better team, when they were through with 2/3/4 to 1 on our defence we could have lost the game just as easily as won it. I appreciate your view and having different perceptions makes it good for a forum as all having same opinion wouldn't make for discussion.
Good crowd for Lewes but I seem to remember when we was in a similar league position we had far bigger gates (4000 + for weymouth). Unfortunately our gates are suffering from a combination of things . 4 home games in a row is not great as big expense for some. Crawley biggest effected town in country because of pandemic. Only I game in fixture list that could be called local... Everytime this season the Premier league has had a free weekend we have been away.. We have been poor at home this season, Ticketing arrangements are far from ideal.. However I still feel this club still has huge potential to improve, especially the way the surrounding area is expanding... The only thing I can't explain is why there are so many faces I used to see all the time but never see anymore... We have come a long way to be disappointed that we haven't beaten oldham and scunthorpe...
over the years ive read and written a lot about potential. Will Crawley ever live up to this though?
I think we sell off all of our potential for probably legitimate reasons. Look at how many ex players are regularly scoring for other league teams and even defenders like Tim Dallison are scoring winning goals. Not easy to know if we have to sell but potential isn't something that we have for long unfortunately. BUT George, I'm sure you would probably agree, being safe at this time of the year is success so we must be doing something right.

I don’t disagree, but beating sides you don’t expect to beat and not beating sides you really should is exactly what makes football so great. We can’t only enjoy it when it’s favourable. By rights we shouldn’t have beaten FG and if it always went with the ‘on paper’ form book it would be boring as ****. The beauty of football for us is seeing a turn up like beating FG…for Scunny it was grabbing a point against us.
If it went with form, we’d have lost to FG and beaten Oldham and Scunny….and we’d all have known it would happen all had bets on it and no one would’ve gone to watch….we’d have 6 points instead of 5 and be unbeaten in 2 not unbeaten in 3…
Btw….that’s 1 loss in 8 and only 4 in 18. Can’t grumble too much can we?
Negatives - once again a failure to put away the bottom team and a crowd 200 less than Lewes v Worthing in the Isthmian.
Positives - another point and FL football is secure for another season.
It's a long time since we heard anything from Mr Eren. Perhaps in the politest possible way (bearing in mind without his donations the club would be struggling) they have taken Crawley as far as they can.
Probably at a push most of us would take Football League membership over struggling though, seems a clear choice. If any big fan of the club is not coming to games at the moment, I’d question why. The club is still at a dizzyingly high level historically speaking, and there is no guarantee that will last forever or even 2 more seasons. Fair play to Worthing but let’s also recall Eastbourne and Lewes were Conference clubs in recent memory, slipping back happens

2,347 Lewes 1 Worthing 2 that's unreal wow! Looks like Worthing are going up to National South. Could they make the football league? Can Sussex sustain 3 football league teams?
I think they'll be in the National League at least within the next 5 years, large attendances for their level and based in a densly-populated area. Plus they seem to be very well run as have invested in the right areas that will make their progress sustainable

Good post there, when the relegation happened in 2015 I was worried that would be the start of a sharp decline as the money that helped us get to L1 wasn't there anymore plus we had a number of very poor seasons afterwards due to a high player turnover and one or two lackluster managers. Thankfully the fortunes have improved since 2019 with a couple of cup runs to enjoy as well as being able to get better players in (I highly doubt we'd have been able to attract the likes of Joel Lynch back in 2016) and I am pretty confident we won't be in serious trouble next season unless a number of catastrophic decisions are made, which I doubt will happen
In regards to the attendances, it could be due to the fact we don't realistically have anything to play for now for the rest of the season because I think if we were challenging for promotion or even the playoffs we'd likely be able to attract more casual viewers to the games. But hopefully next winter whilst the World Cup is on that will lead to people who go to Premier League games coming to us instead to get their weekend football fix, and maybe the club should look to do a special offer around this period in ticket prices.
Worthing seem to have a bigger fanbase and better set-up than Eastbourne and Lewes did during their spells in the Conference so I would imagine they would last longer at that level when it happens. We'll see though

Think you are right Steve about little to play for which may be doesn't inspire the neutral looking for a game to go to or the potential newbie. Coupled with that many of our home performances over the last 3 years have been as dull as dish water which again probably puts off anybody who is dipping their toe in the water and watching us. There was a young lad behind me yesterday and he was so excited to be there. On the first free kick of the game he asked if that was the half time whistle!! Hopefully as he grows up he will keep watching and a new generation of fans come through. My only doubt is that as we know we are a selling club and realistically mid table is true success with that mindset. Therein lies the problem of (and back to your point) nothing to play for if we exit the cups early and dwindling interest. I do view the clubs standing as a great success and am personally happy to put up with the mediocrity if we retain our league status but it wont put new bums on the seats.

so true and so right - no grumbling from me except that perhaps we can always hope and maybe expect to win at home to the rock bottom team

Yes of course its great to know we are not in the position our last 2 opponents are, survival at this level is in extraordinarily difficult times an achievement.
39 seconds handball and Reds robbed of a penalty - there were loads of shouts at the time for it that's for sure. Wonder how the ref interpreted this?
It looks as if it hits his foot first. Under the new handball interpretation this season it is not an offence if a player handballs immediately after it hits another part of their body, so no penalty.
This was part of the Referees Association briefing at the start of the season.
