Look its simple Simon the 11 that started today. What you should be asking is what'll happen 1st: relegation, Betsy sacked, Betsy resigns or fans chase Betsy out the club. This tippy tap football is boring, costly, fails to progress the ball, we aint a Champions league team are you really that stupid Betsy? Betsyball will not cannot get us up and outta this p1ss poor league and it pains me to say we would be better off with Yems. Yes Yems. At least his lump it up to the 5ft 2inch forward produced results over a season that kept us up. Betsy will need a brain transplant to do that at this rate. A non-league team score three goals in your sh1t system Betsy. SORT YOURSELF OUT!
F me. It’s only a pre-season friendly! Have you forgotten we gave two higher level teams a good match?
Be fair, how could someone with the brains of an empty Rolo packet be expected to remember anything positive, if only 'suppporters' could be transfer listed
Firstly I'm not really bothered about pre-season results - I can remember going through a whole pre-season without winning a game and when the league started we won 4 on the bounce including two 4-1 wins away from home at Worcester and Dartford - on yesterday's performance I would pick out two players Jack Powell and Travis Johnson - Powell was too casual in his distribution and wasn't up to speed with the rest of the team, it was only his second game back from injury - we lacked a ball winner in midfield - that has to be Jack Payne at Carlisle - for Travis he needs to get forward quicker with the overlap runs and not constantly pass the ball backward virtually every time - he has exceptional pace as we saw a number of times at Aldershot. We also were poor at corners - you have to get the delivery correct but as we saw two that went virtually to the other corner flag by two different takers - that isn't acceptable at this or any level of professional football. I think this result is just what we needed - a wake up call and so going into the Carlisle game next Saturday we will be better for it.
As for the starting XI at Carlisle will be interesting to see the line up against Bracknell on Tuesday evening for I assume a "B" team game as I'm sure that non of the starting team will be involved.
Good shout out re corners - gotta get set pieces right. We can work on that in training. Im sure 1 or 2 maybe more subs at Carlisle will feature Tues eve and that may help bolster our squad Saturday ready to take the game to them. What ive not heard and I always liked from Yems, especially away from home, was we start off with a draw/point, so make sure you don't conceed that as minimum outta the game. Our tippy tap defending worries me. I've seen no real rationale for it. KB spoke about 30 passes before we scored. Great but if its a long ball from keeper to striker and a goal. Thats great too.

Here's the link from Bracknell about the friendly, I'd imagine this will be 'B' team players but I'm tempted to pop along for that

Disappointed with this final friendly but it could be a 'good' thing in a bizarre way as if nothing else we go to Carlisle knowing we cannot balls up at the back and cannot take anything for granted. It does concern me our new style of play though as I could see with the QPR games how easily we nearly messed things up. I don't get it whats the point of it all? I just wanna win matches and I'm not that bothered how we do it. We have seen it all before with Kewell and we all know how that ended, lets hope ts not another repeat with Betsy.

Only four teams conceded more goals than us last year. Starting with a clean sheet was fine, we just hardly ever ended with one.
I believe the rationale is that if you learn to pass out from the back, you don't have to concede possession almost every time you have a goal kick. In this league and with our tiny strikers, we can hardly boot long balls up to them against League Two's finest grocks. It may well take time but if we can learn how to play out from the back, we should in theory benefit from it more often than giving the opposition the ball on the halfway line and hoping we can win it back.
We definitely shouldn't overdo it, and part of learning to play out is knowing that you have to just boot it away if you're in a bit of a mess, but the majority of teams we came up against last year who were up near the top and gave us tough games were the ones who knew how to pass through us rather than just over us.
Passing out from the back certainly has a place, even at L2 level as it can draw the other team's players out and create gaps - but it's less useful once you go behind because the other team will probably stay put. Passing out AT the back has no place at any level. I assume some semi-consciousness was around at Aldershot.
However, like Alain, I'm more bothered about what happens when the real football starts.
Betsy is a youngish coach so may have some fairly fixed ideas about how to play. His real value will be determined when we see how he responds to needing plans b and C etc.
Of course, I'm an expert; I captained my school team when I was 11 and we lost nearly every game
I too am no expert but if we are to play possession football we need to play it in the opposition half. Just like Man City and the Barca teams of old....I feel like a broken record. Kewell ball, horseshoe football call it what you will is not progressive, it does not lure teams on and is just asking for trouble!

Its progressive to me and its better than the long ball hoof.

You've misunderstood.
Playing the ball between your full backs and centre backs is not progressive.
Possession football in the opponents half is.
As for long hoofs forward. I thought the keepers pass for Nichols v QPR was pretty progressive. It was just a long ball forward. Bergkamp's goal v Argentina is one of the best I've ever seen. It came from a long pass forward. There are many ways to play the game refusing to play long because it's not "pretty" is cutting your nose off to spite your face.
