The one promising thing is at least Betsy and Nichols in their interview afterwards accepted that we were awful, especially in the first half.
I defended the lads after Northampton as that was a good performance, but that there today was beyond abysmal. Somehow even worse than the garbage we served up against Orient.
One thing I want to mention is this idea that we're struggling because the manager wants to play 'tippy tappy' football. I think that's complete nonsense. We don't play tippy tappy football. Our passing is dreadful. What we do is play the exact same passing game our opponents do, we just do it much slower and much less effectively. Slow play is really the only thing I could see today. Everything was so sloth-like. When Wimbledon got the ball they were dynamic, passing and moving, opening spaces, using them, getting forward as quickly as possible. The backwards passes are supposed to be for safety, and yet there were so many examples of players ignoring space in front of them and turning round to play a more dangerous ball backwards towards the opposition's attack. We also often pass it around until the ball gets to our least talented centre back technically, who then smacks it 70 yards to no-one. We did that at least five times today, and did it constantly against Orient. It's weird.
As Betsy rightly said after the game, injuries are certainly not helping. Get Lynchy, Francombe, Tsaroulla and Telford into that team and it's a different story. We're having to start too many kids with no experience who don't know what it takes to play senior football (Balagizi aside). They were supposed to supplement the squad, not be our main players.
It's very concerning that we improved so much after the Orient debacle across the next three games, but reverted to that today. If the owners are serious about doing something this season (like, not getting relegated) they need to stop signing unproven youngsters and bring in some genuine experience and quality. In midfield and out wide. We are screaming out for it.
As for the fans behind the goal, I hope they realise they are just as much a problem as the players. Chanting for the manager to be sacked and mocking the players because they felt embarrassed, goes to show most of them are the typical entitled brats who live online (I appreciate the irony of posting this on a forum, btw) and are more concerned about how they are made to look by being a "supporter" than they are about actually supporting. I was pissed off with the team too but as soon as those chants about Betsy started we may as well have all gone home. That was only ever going to make things worse. Betsy and the lads need to do better, but abusing them is not exactly the way to go about it. Show some ****ing respect, or stay away so the rest of us can do our job and support the club.
I hope the players, manager and owners realise that the vocal weirdos behind the goal do not speak for all of us, but if you could stop playing so **** and win some games too, that'd be smashing.
