SL talks often and did post Col U of players lacking professionalism, but it looked more like confidence and nerves. Do we need the club chaplain and sports psychologist more/as much as/in addition to than words from SL? Why did we make a blunder as soon as we were back on the pitch after his HT talk? It was obvious the team needed an 'arm around them' not tea splattered on the walls and a changing room reminisent of greek plate smashing (tea cups or plates). Now Preston Johnson is the time to invest in a Sports Psychologist. Did deep please as a Seasons work can quickly be undone if we are not careful.
Agree confidence and belief does seem an issue at times. Scott has mentioned it a few times after defeats. Ben Gladwin was good sorting out away form by discussing this with players, so hopefully he can do the same with confidence and home form. If we can actually get him on a pitch for half an hour or so would also help particularly in first half.
I firmly believe SL has had to battle with the players all season to get them to believe in themselves, not to let their heads go down when they lose a goal and actually believe they are good enough to challenge the better teams in the league.
He’s referred to it more than once in interviews this season.
They are a young bunch on the whole and plucked from the lower leagues as we know.
It’s all part of their overall development and I’m actually really excited to see how much better this team will be next season after all the great experience they’ve had together during this season.
I also think that SL badly misses having Gladson on the field as he is that encourager/driving force he needs for the other players.

Some players need an arm put around them, a cuddle with a nice kiss on their cheek and others need a sharp boot up their rear end. Sort it out, Lindsey !!

I was expecting SL to give them a rocket at half time. Whatever he said had zero effect though, as we gave away another soft goal almost immediately the second half started. I don't think motivation is one of his strong points.

he needs to motivate the players going forwards and if he cant maybe another coach can

A Rocket? Surely the Stewards would have searched him for Pyrotechnics?
If SL can't get the best out of the team now he needs to step aside and let the coaching staff take the lead. Part of good effective management is motivating your staff. That said, per se, promotion should be a strong enough motivator for the players. Have we got the right captain on the pitch? Im not sure and it definately cannot be any of the defenders!
I find it a bit concerning people are now pointing the finger at Lindsey and questioning what he is doing behind closed doors, Saturday clearly didn’t go well but surely you can’t blame him for the individual errors. Come the end of the season whether we make it or not, I’m sure he will reflect on what he did right and what he did wrong but many seem to have short memories considering we have been praising this teams fighting spirit not too long ago. There are obvious question marks around the players’ fragility but we have a very inexperienced squad, it’s the nature of football. Cut em some slack. It’s time to believe and whatever will be will be.

SL has worked miracles with this squad, I'm not disputing that. We are in a far better place as a team than last season. But not sorting our fragile, leaky defence, not having a plan B, seemingly being unable to change things when a match isn't going our way......
If SL could address these issues and fix them we wouldn't have to worry about not making the play offs. But we've had these problems all season and very little progress has been made in sorting them.
Hopefully next season a slightly different approach will result in more consistent performances from the lads.

I think this thread is about post match Saturday SL talked about lack of professionalism from the players. I was thinking at HT he needs to put his arm around certain players/boost their confidence and I was concerned he might let rip. Its difficult to get it right and hopefully he'll get the balance right going forward. The last thing this young and somewhat inexperienced squad needs is the John Yems approach!

He’s been badly missed in that respect.
No, not *challenge* the better teams in the league: we *are* one of those better teams

Agreed. We lost due to individual errors on Saturday. Scott said he mentioned at half time we needed to cut them out, and we made another one immediately in the second half.
The team also are very inexperienced, and even the best teams can't cope with the pressure at times. Look at what happened to both Arsenal and Liverpool yesterday. When the pressure was on them to win both lost at home, Liverpool to a team they would have expected to have beaten easily. I am sure both clubs employs number of psychologists, but sometimes you still lose these important games.
Does anyone other than players or coaching staff know what was said at halftime? I doubt it, so we don’t know if he shouted at them or cuddled them
We do know the squad is very inexperienced at the level so at times they will suffer due to this
Does SL not make any mistakes, no he probably doesn’t I’d guess he has but when you consider every pundit and many fans said we would finish bottom and be relegated and we are currently with 3 games to go, in the play offs which is remarkable, even his hardened doubters would surely have to say he’s got things right far far more than he has wrong?
Is he perfect, no, but be careful what you wish for if he left in the summer
Let’s just enjoy the ride of the last three games and keep our fingers crossed for an extension to the season and a chance of Wembley, can’t believe I’m saying that roughly a year on from gaining a result against Walsall to stay in the football league!
