I have a beef with the tactics of the team. Once again England send a team out to play horse shoe football (playing the ball constantly along the back line). When it works it's full, when it doesn't it's dangerous. Possession football is not giving the ball to your defenders. It's keeping the ball among the whole team.

Sorry but it aggravates me.

I’m with you Jim, I hate it when we try to do it the opposition only have to leave 2or3 three up high and the ball winds up going back to Morris who boots it upfield anyway. I might be a dinosaur but I just don’t get it.

many teams dispense with possession football and pay more attention to what is being done with the ball and many teams achieve successful results likewise say defending deep pressing having less of the ball and counter-attacking.

There are few teams I've seen who can actually use playing out from the back to their advantage and create goals from it. I'm talking the likes of Man City and Barcelona who draw teams in to press them high up the pitch and then exploit the gaps and create opportunities. The big BUT is that it requires all players in the team to be comfortable on the ball (including the goalkeeper) and to have excellent close control under pressure and to be able to pass and move as a team. This sort of tactic only generally works at the elite level. City absolutely destroyed teams using this tactic last season and is one Guardiola has perfected with Barca, Bayern and City. I haven't seen anywhere near enough composure and technical ability from women's teams to be able to do this. What I've found watching a few games in the women's world cup is that England ,and most teams, are generally much better when they go out to attack because there are lots of stray passes and mistakes. None of the teams have the ability to keep the ball and not give it away constantly. The best way for them to play and what makes women's football at times more exciting, is that both teams can go all out to attack and you know there's gonna be mistakes which leads to chances; it's a bit unpredictable. At the elite level of men's football, both teams can just cancel each other out sometimes.
Personally, i Thought our Girls gave everything. Not sure that VAR ruined football, but the Cloned referees with their Drilled Gesturing remind me of Freddie Starr Hitler impressions in wellies - so confrontational. And the worst arm throwing was on Scott - cut her face, and didn't get a booking !
Unlucky girls. I feel you have it a good go but the USA were clearly a better team imho.
Now they need to push through all the good vibe from this tournament to grass roots football. Make sure there are decent coaches teaching people how to play properly. Hopefully the beeb can get some games on the telly. Maybe a highlights show on BBC 4?
I got myself sent off at half-time and banned from watching the match with others... just couldn't help myself...
..whenever i hear the name "Jordan Nobbs", i always respond with "I bet she bloomin' does".
Careful Thad. You'll have the cogs after you.

Another good display from the COGS tonight, if only Houghton had aimed for their banner, she would have scored from the spot.
Thought the commentators were generous about the "brilliant placement" of the England goal, when i scored like that it was called a "lucky slice"... although in fairness the ball usually had connected with my shin...!
Hard luck on the girls, they gave it everything they had but were up against a quality team who also knew how to be 'professional'. No disgrace in reaching a WC semi final. The offside was tight but correct, surely that is the whole point of VAR.
That said we need to learn to be a lot more clinical ourselves, for example you can't carry on missing pens like we do (3 out of 3 wasn't it?) and get results in tight games. Shame as if it had gone to ET then who knows.
It did remind me a bit of the men last year, a few easy wins against weaker teams but when up against decent sides it was tough.

Very similar in another respect too... No plan B...!
It was fairly obvious throughout, that we were too narrow & did not have the movement or weight of pass to cope with the opposition pressing game & play it out slowly with simple possession, but were still attempting it - and continually giving the ball away as a consequence - until the final whistle.

The women's football show is already on BBC1 or BBC 2 every week. There's a problem with it's scheduling as it's always on too late on a Sunday (usually around 0000) - that rounds up the action from the women's premier league.
England games are usually on the red button. BT have the contract. The FA have got to decide what they want - audiences with the BBC or ££££ with BT

This Bronze match is prime example of how England pass it out from the back DNA doesnt work. Dreadful defending and understanding of the game gives the Swedes a lead. As for the second goal no pressure on the ball complete lack of intellect of the game all this bull about the Women game progressing is laughable. The only thing making it watchable is the comedy of never knowing what will happen next! And another boob by VAR. Swedes dont appeal why take a look. Mad. Scrap VAR.
