With a lot of their players leaving, and the transfer window closing at the end of the month, even if the EFL approve a deal they will stuggle to put out a competitive team this season.

I feel sorry for the staff because they've lost their low paid jobs, for the fans because they've lost something they've followed for years during ups and downs but not for the players at all, they've taken wages quite happily knowing that an under supported and under funded business has been overpaying them, a situation that exists at far too many clubs with no hope of surviving without a profitable business plan
Doubtless they will be saved at the bell and the same situation will start all over again, which club will be the next to hit the headlines though as no lessons will be learnt from this fiasco

Harsh not really sure how you expect the players to conduct a fit and proper owner test when the EFL clearly can’t. By this reasoning our players should also not be taking a wage as our business plan like most clubs means we run in the red and need an owner to prop us up. Wishing the fans of Bury the best at this horrible time and all the staff surely the players have family dependent on them as well.

Sorry, don't agree that I'm being harsh at all, the players have known for ages that the club were financially on their knees as do most players at the vast majority of loss making clubs, it won't take much more for the whole pack of cards to come down and then there won't be any wages available at all nor will there be any L1 or L2 clubs
Bury have been given another extension until 5pm Tuesday, exactly the same as Bolton who have been told again to complete the sale and come up with a credible plan, sooner or later the EFL will have to act or become a laughing stock, will it be one of these two or one of the many others barely scraping by?

Although they might pretend they had all wanted to play for Bury since they were 5 years old the reality is most football players are just in it for money.
Even when they are incapable of thinking for themselves they have agents to think for them. Surely any half sensible agent would have questioned where the money was coming from, just like when Daryl Clare joined Crawley and then found Chas Majeed's pockets were not as deep as he thought.
Like everything in life you have to live within your means and your budget.
After the news yesterday afternoon, I'm not surprised at Bury's expulsion; it looks like the EFL had no choice. The potential fixture backlog was growing by the week. I'm wondering how many more will follow. The financial fair play rules helped to stem the tide but even Canute must pay for his deckchair.
Simon; as you well know. Daryl will play for Crawley for nothing.
Jim Baker
He DID play for nothing... which was a clear breach of his contract & why he left us 24 hours prior to our...erm... "chairman" making that statement to the rapturous cheers of a bunch of ignorant sycophants... That is the problem.
Asset-strippers, tax-loss opportunists, money-launderers, crooks, con-men, vanity project lightweight glory-boys... they can all appear very credible when they are telling people what they want to hear... I bet the guy at Bury did, not so long ago...!
If the owners of Bury and Bolton had not stepped in was anyone else waiting in the wings waving wods of cash? I dont think so. It appears the EFL were less strict on their fit and proper (whatever that is can be argued until the cows come home) for Bury but in reality all the Chairman did was keep them afloat a little longer. Its no surprise with the huge debts and all that a rescue plan never fully materialised. I think I read somewhere all Bury do is re-apply to join the National League next season, so is the club really dead and buried? (no pun intended) or will they re-appear as AFC Bury or perhaps join forces with neighbours Bolton and form BBW (Bolton & Bury Wanderers). Yes its people like the fans and the lady that sells tickets and answers the phone and the so on that lose out and sure players will have lost things too but I think most had jumped ship long ago and in he last 48 hours I understand the ones you can count in one hand that were left have moved on too. not a great situation when families livelihoods are affected and fans and history tooo, but its a stark reminder of living within the means of a club. Arguably had they done that and not got promoted would they still be a EFL club? I guess we will never know.
Bury will not be allowed to join the national leagues next season. They have form for refusing league teams with Dodgy finances.
If, and it's a big if, they survive they will have to apply for election to the highest league that will have them while showing the finances are sorted. If they they reform as 1885 Bury it would probably be the North West Counties league, I believe.
