Is the return of fans now looking less likely after todays new social gatherings restriction announcements? OK, organised sports gatherings are exempt BUT there's been an abrupt u-turn on horse racing. And if some schools have shut days after opening, this could happen in football too.
We can only guess, but I don't really expect much to change before the year end, and even then only in limited numbers. I suppose we have to remember that the vast majority of people probably haven't been exposed to the virus yet, so the potential for exponential growth in the infection rate is with us just as much as it was in March. That will be the case until 60-70% have been infected, or we get a vaccine. Even then, it appears that reinfection can happen, so any vaccine would need to be once or twice a year until the virus mutates into something less lethal. As it would take a while to roll out a vaccine, and we probably won't see one until late winter/early spring at the earliest, I'm thinking that capacity crowds may not be with us until the start of next season.
I saw the Premier League (PL) representative on TV last night putting forward a case for fans to return - Id rather see the PL and football authorities in general redistribute the money that comes into the game so clubs at grass roots and those in the lower EFL get a bigger slice of the cake as I can't see all EFL and non-league clubs surviving without more fans coming back in.
wtf, i bought a season ticket knowing full well goverment restrictions might mean mstches played behind closed doors.
What I didnt expect is the match to be played behind closed doors due to the club deciding to play behind closed doors . Did they ever have any intention of letting fans in? I feel totally scammed. Every statement seemed to suggest they would open the gates if allowed. Instead we have some bs about club finnancial reorganisation.
£300 plus quid for some shitty ifollow stream which may or may not work.
Also how come scunthorpe are only charging £10 for this match? why do I have pay more because I was stupid enough to buy a season ticket?
Next season I will be individual tickets and it wont be for every match. Wish Id asked for refund on last years season ticket now.

That doesn't seem right that individual match passes are a tenner. Are you sure that's correct? That siad, it was a tenner for us to watch the VAle game so I suppose its swings and roundabouts. I will feel happier paying once I know the service is reliable but it really does not help that it goes live seconds before ko whats wrong with half hours before watching warm ups no sound/commentary? Furthermore, the chat function does not work yes it receives messages yes you get a Bot reply but its never followed up so its effectively a con in that respect. Why have it if its not functioning? I appreciate its early days uncharted territory but FFS CTFC do a better job on You Tube! I am missing live football and its not the same on a screen, but hopefully if Crawley start playing better I may warm to the screen a little more. Lets hope so!
www.crawleytownfc.com/news/2020/september/pilot-fixtures/ "Owing to the financial restructuring of the club's operation, " so unless im mistaken we couldve had fans at the stadium Saturday.Unless Im mistaken the cub said something about a pilot game this month so whats the issue with notification and needing to apply for this? Is this "financial restructuring" estate agent talk ("easy maintained garden....meaning its so small you best not have a cat as you wont have room to swing it" (no harm to cats intended its just an expression!)) for "financial problems"?
Some strange comments from the club there- "financial restructure" not sure what that has to do with fans being allowed inside the stadiums.
Not sure what's worse, not knowing fans could've attended the game or the club admitting that they missed the deadline to allow this to happen. Maybe would've been better if they'd have said nothing.
The statement then talks about a potential 'pilot' game in September and working towards the government and EFL target of fans back in October, however the government has put in new regulations on Monday saying that only 6 people are allowed to gather, therefore, how can this be possible? Will an exception be made for sports events where social distancing can be easily maintained? I can't keep up with all these ever changing government regulations as well as how this relates to football.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels disillusioned with football at the moment. I'm struggling to tolerate games without fans for much longer- both in terms of not being able to go to matches and the effect it has on the games that you watch as well. The start of the football season should be something that all football fans look forward to, but it just isn't very fun at the moment.
Weeks, months or a whole season without fans will be an inconvenience for Premier League and maybe Championship clubs affecting their revenues a bit, but I can't see how this can be anything other than a complete disaster for club lower down the pyramid who rely more heavily on match day income.
As another poster mentioned, the least we should be able to expect is a stream that works for the games that we've paid for. This is in no way acceptable from the EFL to not have a reliable streaming service in place now. It's 2020, not 2010, not 2005- This is not good enough.
P.s yes I knew that there was no guarantee if or when games would be played in stadiums again when buying a season ticket- still sucks anyway!

What do you mean pay more? Season ticket holders get codes to watch on ifollow for all the home matches “free of charge” because you have a season ticket?

i think what is meant here is pro-rata as a STH you pay more than a tenner per match.

I read that part of the statement to basically mean that because the club had furloughed/laid off members of the backroom staff they did not have enough time to jump through the hoops required to satisfy the criteria required to let fans in.
A number of other clubs announced as being open have now pulled out because four days was not enough time to get everything in place.
Its a right pain but if the club doo not get it right, first time they may not get a second chance this year.

i find this very hard to believe as plenty of non league clubs have managed to satisfy the necessary criteria. They also knew this was coming so whats the problem? Season ticket holders have already parted with money and no other (paying) fans will be allowed in yet?
Tranmere, Luton and Morecambe have now said they cannot make the necessary arrangements in time for Saturday's games.
Its a pain, its not good enough but its not wholly the clubs fault. Bigger clubs than ours have found that four days was not enough time to make the arrangements.
Obviously I dont know all that needs doing and yes its upscaled from non-league but non-leagues desperately had to be ready they dont sell loads of season tickets and get upfront cash payments. Many many non league sides made it happen...doesnt that make you wonder why league clubs cant?
And if some clubs CAN be ready what have they done thede others havnt. I accept we'll never know that but it doesn't stop me wondering.

Getting an EFL ground ready, would take a lot more than making a non-league ground (supposedly) COVID-19 compliant. The few I’ve been to recently have clearly made the effort, with plenty of signs, hand sanitiser and taking details on the way in, but it’s not like they large stands of seats to label as to which ones can be sat in. And I also haven’t seen much in the way of policing social distancing around the ground, something EFL clubs are unlikely to be able to get away with.
And you say they knew this was coming - not at suddenly 4 days notice they didn’t. I am sure we, as with all other clubs, will have been working towards an October date for fans to be allowed in grounds.
Just in my everyday boring daily life, I have been constantly revising plans & trying to 2nd guess matters.
It is the uncertainty that is most damaging. In particular, should I commit expense, time & resource to something that - for no fault of my own & with very little notice - may not be happening...(?)
So yes, agreed, our club could do better... But it really cannot be easy at all in the ongoing situation, to try & make decisions on a commercial operational scale & get them 100% right each time...!
