If Nichols goes and Max follows has the club sold out to any chance of the play offs? Tilley made 2 cameo appearances for Brighton and playing for Grimsby is hardly impressing me. I wish him well of course but all said and done this transfer rumour news is depressing.
It would be a real hammer blow to lose 2 of if not our 2 top strikers. Nothing is confirmed though but after being locked out of matches it may feel like season over. I just wonder how much more we would get for these players that played in the play offs.
So we might lose a couple of players that no-one was too thrilled about when they joined us a matter of months ago... in return we get a decent cash injection... well get used to it folks, that is the business model...
another part of the same business model is to play decent football, score goals & win matches... which ensures that we retain the interest of fans... and other clubs stay interested in purchasing our players...!
Can we finish the 2nd half of the season in a playoff spot with that model...? Dunno... but I do know that we finished in a playoff spot at the end of the 1st part of this season with a group of players that no-one was too thrilled about when they joined us a matter of months ago...!

but Thad surely the key difference here is in the 1st part we did have those players? I accept reluctantly we are a selling club. Personally wish we held on and could get promoted and sell on for even more OR that extra money and we could maybe hold on to players.
If Nichols and Watters go we can kiss goodbye to any hope of getting anywhere near the play offs unless we pull a rabbit out of the hat in the transfer market with a decent striker or two.
Consisering my opinion towards the Watters sale where I'm all for the cash injection, I feel very deflated around the Nichols rumours. I really hope they are just rumours as we found ourselves in the perfect position having great back up for the departure of our leading goal scorer. He will be very difficult to replace.

Basically we all want all of the cake & to scoff a few slices too.

its some sort of balancing between keeping the club afloat and in difficult times and natural desire to progress which in itself may keep the club afloat. I think news that we may lose 2 strikers at that same time with no replacement is worrying. Im a speculate to accumulate sorta person - so I would rather we hang on and maybe get even more money.
You’re right it is a balancing act, and one that fans generally seem to understand, that is, they understand our model of developing players from a range of backgrounds and hoping to sell them on for a sizeable profit. You could say this has already happened with the likes of Edwards, Collins, Boldewijn and Lubala all going for fees, but the real test of understanding the model could well come with Watters. It’s one thing to say you understand it, but another to accept it when your prized asset is sold.
Then of course, there’ll be the “where did the money go?”, it didn’t go on the team, when it will have done, but not visibly or in transfer fees out.
And yes, hanging on till the end of the season is an option, and one we’d all like to take I think. He could get 30 goals and fire us to promotion, so we benefit from that and a bigger transfer fee. Alternatively, he could have a poor second half of the season and not hit these heights again next season, then leave on a free. So there’s also the temptation to cash in while you can, and let someone else take the gamble.

I understand completely, but then again it is not my money.
It is hard to be objective when we really want the club to enjoy success & believe it is possible. A major factor for our belief is based on our current form, which may distort the level of risk in not cashing in now...(?)
We have had a great cup run but only just got into the playoff positions with the table still very tight. Our current momentum is impressive, but there is no actual guarantee at this stage, that - even if we kept players - we will inevitably consolidate or improve our league standing.
If the margins in the league were more favourable, a speculate to accumulate approach would certainly be a lot more attractive, but the gamble is that we can easily lose out on all fronts.
It is not always pleasant to be pragmatic, but capitalising on assets at this point does ensure that we are at least successful on one level.
All but about 5 clubs in world football are selling clubs. The size of us we need to sell quicker than most it is really frustrating. On Watters his quality but the risk of not cashing in is his form drops. It is possible look a Bez last year for a couple of months he looked like a world beater.
With Yems we have a manager with great contacts and track record of finding players. Long May his Gem mining continue.
If we loose more than Max then we will struggle to get a play off place. But after the departures of last season I was worried how this season was going to go. In Yems we trust. (Until we loose five in a row and he has to go) ;-)
