Steve Evans has used the axe on the Gillingham squad - Akindi on the transfer list and Matty Willock released among others
John Akinde released, eh? He did seem to cure himself of his goal drought after he left. I'm wondering if he might be worth a punt, if that's what he wants too. Even though he wasn't scoring he caused havoc in teams' defences, and nobody could call him out for lack of effort.
Wonder when the club are going to announce the released/retained list? I hate waiting for it to come out. Other L2 clubs are releasing truckloads of players. Hopefully Yems doesn't bin off too many players.
I was thinking the same thing today. Hopefully all the clubs releasing theirs means we will find out later. I’m very interested to see it. A lot of clubs have released A LOT of players notably Scunthorpe and Colchester
Colchester have released Harry Pell and Lapsie. Scunthorpe have released Karacan.
Now if only we can find that magic money tree.....
Akinde has not been released he is on the transfer list...fee needed to get him. With his record here could any of us justify that?

Not sure. Not because of what happened years ago though.
On one hand 8 in 53 for Gills is not exactly earth shattering plus at 31 it goes against the youth model we now have. On the other hand to be fair he has been playing in L1 so it isn't a direct comparison - when in L2 at Barnet/Lincoln he did well. And he probably has 3 or 4 good years ahead still.
Just wondering but everyone associated with the club says we play a nice brand of football, the commentators talk about us liking to play it on the deck and how other teams are much more direct... But what I see is repeated balls over the top, very direct. That's not a problem as many teams get promoted from this league doing the same but I don't get why we pretend we play it on the deck. For 20% on games we do play nice passing football and it's often effective but then we revert back to the ball over the top again. I can"t work out if it's just me misinterpreting these rather aimless continual balls over the top as 'direct' incorrectly or we are saying one thing and doing the other.

We seem to play a mixture of short passing and long balls in behind. We are certainly not the most direct team. I’ve seen a lot more agricultural football at this level with mixed results I might add. Certainly being physical and good at set pieces gets you ahead at this level.

That should be a nice boost for their red card tally next season then! :-) Horrible man - full of sly elbows and kicks but goes to ground squealing and banging the turf in supposed pain whenever anyone touches him.

True but a handy player in your team.
Refs seem to like him and give him fouls for sod all and let him get away with the sly stuff.
