Crawley Town play at home against Gillingham in the EFL cup, Tuesday 10th August 2021 19:30 kick off. Please keep all discussion about the match to this thread. Thank you and come on you Reds.
Went to collect my ticket that I brought online. Asked where to queue and the steward said at the ticket office. Bloody long queue. Beats the object of buying in line but amen. Got to the front and was told I'm in the wrong queue. Seems to collect online purchased tickets you have to go to the grey box marked cash only! Whose bright idea was that?
Missed the opening goal because I had to stand in bloody long queues twice.

Slightly better performance than saturday so far, more possession, more pressing from midfield and a few good thru balls from midfield, total shots 4, shots on target 1, albeit this is against Gillingham Reserves (only 4 players who started saturday are playing for them tonight). early days ......
FT 2-2 and Gillingham win 10-9 on penalties. Perhaps both managers can give Southgate some tips on how score penalties in a shoot out. Good effort from both teams. Shame we lost in the end. Can’t complain scoring 9 out 10 penalties. Disappointing. But hope we can show the same fight in the league now.
Ludwig looks a find and such a shame he missed the penalty. Headed the ball clear, glided across the ground against some fast forwards and never shirked a challenge...including trying to put a player into the west stand which got Evans sent off.
Blondy's kicking needs some work.
Will Ferry was nice and busy.
Criticism: I think we need to up the fitness regime. Their second goal came after we had cleared the ball and stayed in our own penalty area. Just a chip forward, a headed challenge that fell nicely for their guy to volley in. Had we pushed out the headed challenge would have been too far out for a shot on goal.

Onwards
Jim Baker
Yes agree with Jim Blondy needs a major overall on his kicking but lot more positives than negatives from the game

I agree with Jim also. I thought all 3 new outfielders looked Good. We must find a way of playing both Francomb and Davies from the start, i do not care who plays right back and who plays right mid, but they both need to start all the league games. Payne, Ferry & Ludwig all need to play all league games also. Craig, Matthews, Tilly & Powell need to be taken out the equation to achieve success this season. I have not given up on Gallaher yet either, my Burton Albion Buddy rates him! Looked better tonight - albeit v Gillingham 2nds.

I’m not Craig’s biggest fan but he’s played very well in the past few games
To add to your criticism Jim it may go hand in hand but along with sitting back and letting them play I thought the substitutions were awful tactically as soon as Frost and Ashford came off we lost our momentum.
Shame, the way the match went, the penalty script was either Blondy would come through after a difficult match or brave young Ludwig would suffer a disappointment after a very promising performance.
My glass is 50-50, Gills were there for the taking but we’re not there yet in terms of finding the fluency of last season. Ferry looks a good signing, not sure about Payne yet. The big worry is Nadderz looks miles off, am not sure Ashford is the answer either but he played ok in fits and spurts. Boy we need Nichols back soon, crap for the fans but if the extra few days gets him fit for Salford, we’ll need him. Think they will be tougher than this Gills team.
Good to see the Evans show back again and he didn’t disappoint, guess he’ll drag not a great team to midtable again this season
Steve Evans getting sent to the stands was without a doubt the best moment of the game, as I was sat in the bit right next to the executive seats he wasn't too far away from me
Gutted for Ludwig but he looks like a very solid addition to the team and could end up being our best buy this summer. Blondy's distribution was really poor though, I lost count how many times he kicked it out of play on the left side. Overall I thought the team did well to take it to pens when you consider they fell behind in 93rd minute plus were without a lot of the best players (Morris, Tunny, Tsaroulla and Nichols). Yems must play 2 up front next Tuesday though if we are to get a good result
