The Daily Star has waded in this morning under the page 42 headline: "The Accidental Racist" - presumably a parody of some similar story titles. It's too long to reproduce here as I don't have the pasteable version.

He goes on about being hounded by the press, just try shopping in Horsham Johnny boy or trying to get a pint in a pub or your fav takeaway in Peckham Im sure they'll be plenty of people only too happy tohave a 'word' with you. Only fools and horses saying 'plonker' comes to mind and thats putting it mildly Johhny Boy.
I guess a riff on the novel and film the Accidental Tourist.
I read the panel's deliberations and it seemed they did a thorough and fair job, on my first look. But they made a bad mistake in accidentally blundering into a definitional row about what is or what isn't a racist, which they had no need to get involved in. Many white people are eager for a softer definition that allows for slips and accidents, no surprise as it lets them off the hook for sorting out their own ignorance. Many black footballers led by Ian Wright below are having none of it, saying your repeated actions do define who you are, see the tweet below (and he rightly centres the story on the aggrieved players (we know who they are now from the piecemeal ID of the report but curiously no one on this forum is saying their names?)
The panel should have stuck to its core business, deliberating on the charges and left it at that, and not wandered off into other wider discussions about what constitutes a racist. It made fair judgements on Yems' actual language to players. It dismissed a charge that he had acted in a discriminatory manner towards the players (presumably in selections etc, again fair enough, as that's an incredibly difficult thing to prove). Some of us may have thought those players deserved more game time but these are always subjective judgements where it's near-impossible to apportion malice.
Now the danger is that, because of that wandering off into discussing matters that were not part of the core competence of the panel, their deliberative work will be set aside by the FA or legal action and this whole scandal will be elongated again rather than being put to bed.
Yems is also doing that with these idiotic interviews he is giving and his lack of contrition towards the players. The question of the length of his ban is bound to come up if he thinks he's done absolutely nothing wrong. Because what would stop him walking into another football club at the end of 18 months and doing exactly the same thing again if he thinks he's in the right to do so?
I also question whether the panel ought to have involved itself in the matter of defining racism. It is widespread, but relatively little of it is blatant vitriol - and I do believe a fair proportion of it is unintended. The latter type is possibly better dealt with education rather than punishment. As for JY, even if he was short on self-awareness and empathy, it's difficult for me to conceive that he didn't know he was causing offence. That it blew up after WAGMI took over tells me that the affected players felt they would not be listened to under the previous regime.
That doesn't surprise me as they were making threatening noises about doing so. However, I did read somewhere that the panel's decision was binding, so I'm unclear now about whether their appeal is possible.

Yes this will go down as a very bad episode for the Ziya Eren regime, owners who did generally a decent job and gave us good moments like the Leeds win and the marginal recovery in League 2. Although they've had vitriol chucked at them, Wagmi deserve credit for rooting this toxic environment out of the club.
On Yems' behaviour not being blatant. I can't see how that view is supported by the evidence we've read.***player name removed by admin*** got so depressed by the constant taunts, he feigned illness to avoid training. This is what bullying does to a person, it breaks you down and destroys your mental health.
He seems to have totally disappeared from the football world. This was a player who played very well for us during the vital away win at Rochdale, right in the depths of the 2021 injury crisis.
What I don’t understand is that the FA are appealing the 18 month ban - they selected the panel to sort these allegations out and report back to the FA with their verdict and the FA must have signed the findings off. They did the press release and it has caused an uproar of emotions- now they the FA are appealing against themselves because they have decided that they got the time of the ban wrong.

That may well be the case Steve but are you not slightly curious as to why, if he was having such a torrid time, he came back for a second loan spell at the end of the January window after returning to his parent club at the end of the first spell? I’m not sure I would want to do that if things were as bad as they were made out to be.

I did wonder why he came back for a second spell with us, as he didn't play very often the first time round. He hardly featured at all in his second stint. A weird one, not sure why we loaned him if we weren't going to play him. He looked good when he did get a chance.
