The following players remain in contract with the club, or have signed new deals during the season:
Zaid Al-Hussaini Ludwig Francillette Owen Gallacher Mustafa Hussein Florian Kastrati Kaan Kevser Junior Rafiq Khaleel Szymon Kowalczyk Aramide Oteh Harry Ransom Davide Rodari Ronan Silva Nick Tsaroulla Kwesi Appiah Tony Craig George Francomb Jake Hessenthaler Joel Lynch Glenn Morris Tom Nichols Jack Payne Jack Powell James Tilley
The following players remain in contract talks with the club:
Alex Battle Emmanuel Adebowale Sam Matthews Mark Marshall Taylor Seymour Ashley Nadesan Jordan Tunnicliffe Ali Gundogdu remains in talks after training with the first team last season.
The following players have been released from the club:
Henry Burnett Archie Davies Tyler Frost Alfie Jones Reece Grego-Cox Ricardo German
Shame about Grego-Cox. Not an easy injury to come back from and I wish him the best. Shame about German too, I did rate him but his breakthrough was short lived. I have completely forgotten we have some of these players signed. Also big question mark about Adebowale I didn’t think he was up to this level
Quite why we are in talks with Adebowale, Marshall and Battle I don’t know. There’s going to be no room for new signings at this rate
Marshall did okay, but generally not featured from the bench so can sort of understand that. The other two hardly made the squad let alone played so I don’t know why we’d want to resign them.

Still a lot of deadwood in the squad. About 10 players who have hardly played and should be put on the transfer list or released at the end of their current deals as it’s very unlikely they will become regular players.

Indeed, a few are youth players and potential hidden gem players but they barely get game time
Those 10 you are referring too are probably the youngsters who the club deemed worthy of contracts with the hope that they will progress - we haven't got an academy so they had to put them on contracts to enable the club to keep hold of them - most are under 20 so they are not affecting the squad when the club have to name the squad members for next season. They are all probably on a low salary which I think doesn't affect the EFL criteria about maximum squad budget figure either.
If like Preston Johnson said we are going to run the "B" team this season then they will certainly get matches and we will need them to play in these games - you can't expect all the 1st team squad to play in them - yes it will be a mixture of the 1st team subs, giving them game time and these youngsters making up the side.
With the new owners stating that they are substantially increasing the playing budget then I can't see any problems in keep these on the books to see what they can do if given more match time and experience, and Yes I can see some strong signings being made to boost the first team.
With all this said, I do hope that they sort out the managers position sooner rather than later as players will want to know this as much as we do. Which is why the club are still trying to sort things out with the 8 players - some I would expect to go.
Ali Gundogdu according to wiki is an attacking midfielder 20years old of Turkish descent who has played for Germany under 16s. Previously with Hertha Berlin. Also can kick with his right foot which is useful

Maybe Adebowale could be our equivalent of Joelinton soon (where the new manager plays him in a different position and he becomes one of our best players as a result)

The B team would certainly help players like Khaleel and Al-Hussaini. Having as many players in the squad next season wouldn't be as much of an issue I feel if the B team is created, plus I have a feeling we will be able to afford it more than under previous owner.
But yes I think the 8 players that are 'in discussions' are waiting to see who the new manager is first before signing any new contracts. Which means if the new owners have a couple of clear candidates in mind, it might be a good idea to start interviewing them soon so they have time to look at the squad before pre season starts (however I don't mind waiting longer as long as we get the right person in for the role)
So many players retained yet can only name 4 subs in last few games of the season...we're they all injured ? Surely this would have been a good time to blood these players ,but It didn't happen so if they aren't good enough what really is the point of keeping ? ....didn't go as expected for these players so made up stories now we are too scared to get rid

Spot on, when it was announced we were having a B team it was obvious we are going to have a big squad, which would include a fair few low-cost players who may or may not get near first-team action depending how they develop. Adebowale may simply be in the running for an affordable contract to act as one of a few players who will provide an experienced spine to a young team, the coaches may see something in him that helps younger players. The B team will still need to be of viable strength and numbers to fulfill fixtures while not calling on first teamers.
There's been a school of thought on this forum that having development players is a waste of time if they aren't immediately useful to the first team. But I don't know of any club that doesn't nuture, young inexperienced development players. For me, blaming low-cost development players has always been a massive distraction when talking about why we aren't progressing as a club.
Very hopeful that we are still in discussions with Nadderz and Tunnicliffe, Matthews has potential too. But if it doesn't work out, we'll get players just as good if not better. Exciting times ahead

Nothing at all wrong with a proper development structure that nurtures young players, including education, good coaching and competitive football. In fact it's exactly the way clubs like Crawley Town should be going.
The problems arise when you have a huge squad many of whom never play a game, without the facilities. That causes frustration, resentment and other issues and doesn't develop the players. I was told by someone at the club that at some points last season there were over 50 players attending training sessions at Horsham due to Erdem's obsession with roping in anyone who could kick a football. The club will never progress like that.
