It wouldn't surprise me if Tom Nichols statistics look poor but then Mr Nichols is constantly played out of position. There are supporters who believe zhe always plays at the point of a diamond in midfield. His real position is a forward.
It's a bit rich that you play out of position to help the team and then get dropped and criticised for your real position stats not being good enough.
Jim Baker
sure stats have a part to play but e.g. watching Brighton forward Wellbeck - he is often criticised that he doesn't score enough, but I see how he drags players away, creating gaps for others and his movement off the ball. Do stats cover everything? I doubt it.

I couldn't understand why the fans on Friday night chose to sing for somebody destined to leave the club rather than cheer the team? Can you enlighten me as if he is going he doesn't need us to be cheering - maybe boo's would be more appropriate?

I do think the way in which this has been handled by the people running the club has been a total mess but it's not like Nichols was exactly in amazing form before he was left out either. The Gillingham match a couple of weeks ago I thought he was anonymous in attack and don't think he would have made much difference Friday night really too.

You don't understand much of anything though do you?
The majority of fans like Nichols, appreciate what he has done for the team, and want him to stay. Singing his name was a message to the owners/DoF. It's how people show support for their team.
You want Nichols booed because of a temporary loss of form? Sweet jesus. Or is it because he might be leaving the club? Even though it seems he is being forced out rather than asking for a transfer. What an abysmal supporter you are.

Guess I don't - cheering for somebody not playing instead of somebody on the pitch - don't get it but takes all sorts

TN is a fans favourite and until we are told he has gone (for certainty) why wouldn't the fans cheer for him? Do you not think that it was also 1. a go at the players and manager for the performance and 2. whoever decided to leave TN out of that game and ship him out to pastures new.

And what exactly in that game was deserving of cheers? We were appalling. There is always encouragement for the players, definitely from me, but they need to give us something to cheer about. You need to remember Tom Nichols is still at the club. He's still one of the lads. Popular with the rest of the team and most fans. If you can't understand fans expressing their support for him I can't help you.

So the fans have no role in lifting the team on the pitch if things aren’t going well? Yes we were bad but that’s when support means the most. I thought only sing when we’re winning was actually meant to be a bad thing

I just knew you would stick your oar in. It's not up to the fans to drag a decent performance out of the players. It was ruddy freezing Friday evening, and our players were awful. They tried hard but showed themselves up as just not good enough. Not against Hartlepool at any rate. Sometimes they can put in a fantastic performance, but on Friday they were piss poor. We had our ass handed to us by a team below us in the table, as often happens.
I'm not blaming ME, he needs to see just what level we are at and what needs changing. He doesn't have a magic wand. He does have a huge squad of players signed by the previous managers. We also have a number out through injury, illness etc. None of that excuses the diabolical performance they put in. No amount of cheering would have changed that. And it's very difficult to get enthusiastic about a team that just doesn't look bothered. Whether that was down to interference from the DoF, the freezing weather, or something else, it was still a crap performance and not good enough.
It annoys me that over 2000 of us turned up in freezing conditions to watch the lads, instead of staying at home in the warm watching the World Cup, and numpties on here have a go at the fans for not supporting them enough. Sweet jesus.

So we have a difference on what we think about how fans should support the team which we probably won't agree on (Singing Betty out, not singing for most of Swindon game, cheering someone who's looking to be elsewhere ) but bottom line is you, Steve and myself were there on a freezing night to watch our team despite our minor differences of opinion. So I'd happily have your back if you needed it and don't doubt you'd do the same.

100%. The whole point of these forums is so we can all disagree with each other! I would point out that there is no evidence to suggest that Nichols is looking for a transfer. If he goes, it will be that he was pushed, and whatever reason the DoF gives won't be the actual one.
As for not singing, I used to sit in the West Stand. It's quieter than the grave up there.
I do think the new goalkeeping coach is a step in the right direction a little bit as it's someone who has tons of experience in English football (and has been pretty successful too). Now feel we need to hire a scout/recruitment analyst who is also experienced and knows exactly which types of players will fit in well with this club, as I don't want to see the mistakes made in the summer repeated again

Just need a decent manager that can pick the right players. Plenty of clubs have one, is it that difficult 🤷♂️

Only sing when we're winning then, great support! And name-calling at anyone who disagrees with you, yep your usual thin skin. Replying to you is sticking oars in, lol ok, still not got to grips with what a messageboard is all about. Yeh I was there too in the freezing conditions too but I guess I don't think that makes me some kind of hero
