This game showed we have trouble playing the better/more experienced teams. Although we had more possession, and nearly matched their shots, our lack of experience and quality showed in the important areas of defence and shooting accuracy. Hopefully a couple of better defenders and an effective striker in January will improve things, although I am concerned that Scott thinks the defence is fine due to his reluctance to play Ransom.
We used to be good against the better teams, but struggle against the poorer sides, but this has reversed this year, I feel due to our lack of experience:-
Against top 12: P 10, W 2, D 1, L 7, F 12, A 24 (-12) Points 7
Against bottom 12: P 11, W 7, D 2, L 2, F 21, A 13 (+ 8) Points 23
The highest placed teams we have beaten are Accrington (9th) and Milton Keynes (11th)
Have never been so angry at a ref for a very long time.
Criminal performance from him.
Our players were also naive and lacking in experience as to how to deal with the play acting, winding up and other assorted dark arts that they employed. We overreacted and lost focus.
Had a good (and horrific) view of their second goal where it seemed we didn’t have a single defender in the right place when the ball was whipped across and their players were literally lining up in a row waiting to score. Not a good look.
They were also top notch and a really good team who know exactly how to work together as a unit.
I’m a real fan of Williams as he’s a fighter but he fell for the actions of a cheating wind up merchant, but hopefully he’ll learn how to react better in future.
I do wish we would stop blaming the ref when we lose. Yes he got his cards out too early and suffered as a result but he gave us a penalty to get us back in the game.
We were beaten by a better more experienced side who knew how to handle us.
And as for Williams, unless he can sort himself out and stop getting stupid bookings and sending's off he should be shipped out tout suite and left to fuel his rage elsewhere. Scott needs to sit him down and tell him what's what and his record so far is not something we should be accepting.
Certainly not our best performance by a long way and it was not helped by a very inept ref and a team of cheating giants. We are loosing but we show no urgency to get on with the game with no one in the team trying to inspire his team mates to get out of the situation just carry on as if we were leading. When we get a corner what do we do prat about playing it short and end up passing back to the goalie. Not once did we do this but three times we wasted corners with this out come have we got a team of slow learners. Then just to put the icing on the cake Williams has a hissy fit by getting sent of for first yellow for the tackle then the second yellow for having a stamp on the attacker. He does seem to have a short fuse may be we ought to send him on an anger management course because he is a liability to the team with his lack of control. Then just to finish my lack of enjoyment today we had the most useless ref we have seen all season who was completely bought by all the play acting and cheating by the opposition. I did not enjoy todays performance and if we play the same on Friday night I think the result will be the same but hope for a better ref.
Outplayed Trev, simples - dont blame ref for our inadequacies and I felt they played us superbly
FT: Town of outstanding quality football 1 Town of cheats 3 Ref must be on Sunday League after that embarrassment. Williams cost us 3 points with a daft card getting himself sent off and once again are entire defence were unable to handle an average L2 team. We struggle to defend against pace attacking and game was all but over when the cheats scored their third. Looks like the ref needed close protection at the final whistle, wonder why? MOM Kelly.
Understand the disappointment George, but do we really suffer more than others from referees decisions. No we don't so lets just accept we are a team learning our trade who were outplayed by a superior team today.

Very True Sooty! You can get away with 3 Cart Horses at the Back against the Average Teams but not against the Better Teams!
Also was Worrying to Hear Scott talking in his Pre Match Interview how its nice to push Kelly up in the Attacking Midfield Role when he possibly can. That was a - 'We Need a New Training Ground Coach' moment for me!

Well, they certainly did a number on us. Stronger in certain areas, made the most of their chances and downright cynical when they needed to be in snuffing out any hint of a dangerous attack but I’m not sure they were that superior in terms of actual play. The irony was that I felt we were getting on top when we gifted them that second goal especially as Wright had thundered one against the bar a minute or so before that. And no, we shouldn’t blame the ref for our shortcomings but, penalty aside, he set the tone by letting them get away with nasty stuff after the ball had gone, like the one on Kelly in the first few minutes. He was very quick to book Gladwin and Kelly for dissent on decisions but seemed quite happy to let Aden Flint mouth off at him at some length towards the end of the game. Maybe Saint Nigel had had a word with him about the penalty at half time?
Can’t comment on the Williams episode as I couldn’t see what happened but agree that he needs to control himself a bit more. Going down to 10 men totally killed off any slim chance of us getting something from the game although I thought we should have had another penalty for the handball in added time. Sadly, the shout for handball was fairly thin as a lot of the crowd had gone by then. Also agree about the need for defenders who can defend as well as tapping the ball around at the back. Yes, Conroy is a calming influence but twice today we nearly conceded because of misplaced passes or getting caught in possession.

Respectfully Disagree.
It was obvious the ref dealt more harshly with our players than theirs as outlined in one of the previous posts. Not sure he gave us a penalty, more like he had no other option for what was a blatant foul.
We need more defenders like Williams, not less. I haven’t seen this short fuse temper thing in Williams (before today) that a few on this forum seem to point out. Instead, I see a no-nonsense competitor who we need more of in our side to be honest.
I gave them the credit they deserve, but we were actually in control of the game at the point we lost that soft second goal.
The ref didn’t lose this game for us today, but he was a contributor to the end result for sure

Thanks Lightblue, exactly what forum is for a range of views not always in agreement
We were outplayed nothing more. Our plan A simply didn’t work. We kept trying to utilise the wings to cross balls in but the way Mansfield set up they snuffed us out every time especially with their 6ft 5 centre backs. Felt Gladwin and Campbell were passengers all game and didn’t really contribute much in contrast to Kelly who was having to run his socks off all game to try and create that deadly pass. Our defending was appalling, so many times they had a man that was completely unmarked which lead to the goals.

Clough's side took lumps outta us and the ref was ineffective. Yes he 'gave' rather 'awarded'us a pen but never clamped down on their foul play. Williams as others say I agree needs to sort himself out or ship out. Personally the latter as I font think he is up yo the required std (he aint alone in that). They had more experience against us SL made a point of that post-match. It hurts losing. We move on. AFC to beat then Gillingham. Do that at Mansfield will be long forgotten.

I take it we have all Listened to the Post Match Scott Interview. Scott Said we were Ineffective on the Left Hand Side Today. So the Obvious Question I have for Scott is 'Why didnt Lolos play in that Left Side Midfield Role?'' He Always Gets Stuck in and he is Mostly Effective when he Starts?
