Not everyone agrees...including a professional footballer.
Actually none of them disagree with the wearing of the poppy - Jon Snow and Charlene make valid points about being asked to wear it on-air (at the BBC there is no requirement to wear it)
The interest around it being relevant to all conflicts has made it politicised - McClean and others see that as a problem. I have a degree of sympathy with that.
But I come down to this - these men/women go to war at the behest of a government. They do not get a great deal of input into the decision. And they carry out their duties with great dignity and great professionalism.
For that they deserve my support and thenks
Wasnāt it a load of Cambridge university students that were completely opposed to them, claiming it glorified war or some other modern, lefty, trying to be PC view š
The work of the legion should not be a political matter... you may have a moral objection to war, you may disagree with the validity of certain conflicts - i certainly do - but as a nation we send young people to take part in military action on our behalf...
..it is actually quite easy to train kids to pull a trigger... the hard work often comes years later.. when they wake up screaming every night with their heads full of horror.
I am very proud that my club have supported the poppy appeal in this very special way.

but not everyone is happy we send people out to war

I am not altogether happy that we have done so on occasions... but if it is a question of humanity, then that must also extend to support of individuals, families & communities impacted by those wars... The Legion have quietly & pragmatically done that for decades, on our behalf.

if you select red over white and black what message is the club giving? Whether you like it or not its political statement too.
I purchased 3 at the stadium yesterday, quite a few people were asking for them in the club shop whilst I was in there. Well done to whoever came up with the idea. Iām proud to support.š

Everything can be a political statement if you decide to make it one...
..for example: i have decided to assert my right to self-declare my gender as female during the half-time break, yes it can be viewed as a political judgement on the oppressive treatment of the transgender community & their human rights...
...although the added benefit of not having to queue for the smelly urinals is also a consideration..!
You decide.. a principled political stance or just taking the p1ss..?
My Grandad's brother died at 21 in WW1 on 6/11/18. I will wear a red poppy out of respect and rememberance for him and for the young men who died with him and in other wars.
Nobody should feel compelled to wear a poppy if they don't want to. There is almost a sense of moral bullying into buying and wearing one - you feel as though you are doing something wrong if you don't. If you don't want to wear one, don't wear it.
Personally, I will wear a red poppy with added pride this year as it is the 100th anniversary, in memory of all those who did not have a choice but died to enable us to have one.

Stoke player wont wear a poppy. Terrible how he and others have been judged and treated for not wearing a poppy. If you decide not to wear any poppy, be absolutely proud of that and the fact we live in a democratic countty of freedom of choice.
I would make the point that a significant proportion of Irish people - from all backgrounds - fought in the British ranks during WW1.
But absolutely, no-one is ever obliged to wear a poppy.. Although I do understand peer pressure...
..in fact - this will not be welcome - I am not a big fan of "Help the Heroes" as IMHO it has the wrong emphasis & takes focus away from the fantastic work of the Legion.

I completely agree Thad I was going to buy a help for heroes Easter egg a few years back for a family member until i saw that only 10% went to the cause. To many people are taking from that charity that for me it is simply a business that gives a small portion to charity.
