I would make the point that a significant proportion of Irish people - from all backgrounds - fought in the British ranks during WW1.
But absolutely, no-one is ever obliged to wear a poppy.. Although I do understand peer pressure...
..in fact - this will not be welcome - I am not a big fan of "Help the Heroes" as IMHO it has the wrong emphasis & takes focus away from the fantastic work of the Legion.
I completely agree Thad I was going to buy a help for heroes Easter egg a few years back for a family member until i saw that only 10% went to the cause. To many people are taking from that charity that for me it is simply a business that gives a small portion to charity.
Thank you Sulton, i thought i would be on my own with that viewpoint. I find it opportunist & appealing to base instincts. It does ruthlessly exploit peer pressure to a degree that if you are not behind it, you risk being categorised as offering support to enemies of the state.
