If what Preston said about the 5g pitches and us playing on grass - then it’s a possibility that the Horsham game may not go ahead-
if they want to play on grass then Bognor has one of the best pitches in Sussex - and fairly local only an hour away -
I’ve always wondered would we be able to get a tie up with Brighton, they use the stadium for the ladies and we use their training ground. They’ve got a great facility down there at Lancing
More likely we could use the facility at Falmer that they used to use and that their ladies have just vacated
I can’t get my head around everyone wanting big name teams - why - we need to play with the ball but against these teams you are chasing it for 90 minutes- you may have it for perhaps 30% of the game which doesn’t help getting confidence on the ball and creating anything - Perhaps a game against a Championship team and League 1 teams at home then a couple of National League teams with grass pitches away.
Would suggest a line up of - Watford or QPR and Wycombe home Eastleigh, Woking, Boreham Wood away as a minimum
Eastleigh would be a good shout if Bradders manages to survive the restless natives down there

Yes no plastic but no to Bognor, too far away. I say that because we wont attract fans from Bognor to Crawley we might from East Grinstead (but please NO awful ground and parking) so how about Haywards Heath or Burgess Hill?

East Grinstead is a right pain to get to on public transport due to the location of the ground. Both those clubs you mentioned are decent options, there was a friendly at Burgess Hill last summer. I think Billingshurst could be an option because of the links James Tilley has with them, as would Horley again if Nadesan is given a new contract. South Park, Redhill and Merstham would be very convinient as they're the nearest clubs to where I live

Bognor is too far away?!? And do you mean it won’t attract fans from Bognor to Crawley, or Crawley to Bognor? Surely the latter if it’s being played at Bognor.
Last season supporters were complaining about the lack of quality of our preseason games - now you are suggesting Hayward Heath, Billingshurst, South Park etc - come on!!!!! we probably need to be playing National League teams as a minimum really.

like most teams I think we best start with 'easier' get fit games and move towards ending with a more challenging game so I see no reason why we cant start with Burgess Hill away and end up with Real Madrid, I mean a Ayr Utd if they happen to be on tour or an equivalent team at home. Bring it on!

Yep that's why you should increase the difficulty of the games as the players build up fitness. So I'd have say Billingshurst as the first match and then the last one before the season starts would be Southampton/Brentford/Fulham. Don't want any against academy teams unless it's a European one (like say Ajax u20s)

I thought we figured out years ago that pre season games that involve stuffing teams like EG 10-0 are ultimately pointless.

Given that we are going to have a development team this year, perhaps not now

TBF the main purpose of them would be to help put some money into the non league club's coffers, as it could make some difference to them if a few hundred turn up for the friendly. Pretty much all clubs that don't fly to the other side of the world in order to make even more money do this at least a couple of times each summer. But we do need to play a few matches against harder teams towards the end of the pre-season schedule, as I partly wonder if not doing this contributed to a pretty poor August last time around
To be honest, most National League teams are of a very similar quality to those in L2, which is why you never see a team who's been promoted from it go straight back down the following season. The localish teams in there all have artificial pitches though (including Dorking if they win the playoff final), so not sure if we kinda want that if the new chairmen have spoken about the need to practise on natural grass. Going off topic slightly, I do think it is only a matter of time before artificial pitches are allowed in the Football League again
