Westander, I don't want Betsy sacked but to say you've enjoyed this season isn't a glass half full statement that's a me tankard is full and I have a couple more lined up sort of statement!
As for other teams having more patience than us. I'm going to have to disagree again Steve. Rochdale have sacked their manager, Hartlepool fans are calling for their manager to be sacked, Swindon fans are running out of patience and there are even rumblings against Clough at Mansfield. Rightly or wrongly football fans have always been a fickle bunch.
Jim Baker
See your point Jim but I say that as a whole, not just the poor performances we have put in. I have struggled like Redtiger and others in some games where we have been very poor but the overall vibe leading into the season and the excitement it has brought into the club at the moment still far outweighs an albeit slow start. Yes we could be better, yes today we are in a poor league position, yes there is much to do but that's what excites me - I see much better things ahead and cant wait to see how the journey goes - but the journey isn't just 5 or 6 games but for the long term. I stood by Yems and applauded his efforts but the football we saw was dull and boring and already I see some seeds and some small shoots of positive change blowing in the wind!
Love the humour! But please try and show some patience
I am showing patience, I’m going to the games to support the team and it’s a long drive back from Rochdale after that performance! The mistakes have been all too predictable though, and every day Betsy is in the job the bigger the rebuilding project will be. They obviously decided that we had too old a side but do you think signing 19 players under the age of 25 was a wise move to build a squad for league 2? Do you think tippy tappy at the back is working? I could go on and on about the mistakes we’ve made but I don’t want to criticise too many of the signings but I feel we would struggle if the season did become a relegation scrap. Betsy was praising the players after Rochdale whereas I thought he should have been giving them a dressing down. I think he’s a kids coach not a manager of a mens team.
Good on you going away especially to Rochdale - I cant match that. Hopefully we can get closer together in our views as the season progresses
Yeah I’m sure all the other ‘top budget’ sides in league 2 would be absolutely thrilled with 2 pts in 6 games. Bravo bravo Betsy they would chant. Yes Crawley fans are well known for being a tough crowd.
I've never come across any League 2 team in recent times that's sacked their manager after 6 games, particularly one that's just beaten a Premier League team. You can give me a list of course, I'm all ears
You keep kidding yourself that we beat a premier league team, but we didn’t. We beat a premier league club that fielded a reserve side in a tournament they really have little interest in. If that team was fielded in premier league game they would be hammered. That’s not said to knock our achievement but please lets keep it real. What scares me is that we now have a bigger squad than most premier league clubs.

bigger than PL teans in squad size that cant be right surely

Doesn’t that say more about modern day football fans and social media than anything though?

I count 40 players. Spurs have 27, villa 27 I can’t find any that have 40. Why on earth would you want nearly 4 players in each position! I wouldn’t be surprised if we had a bigger squad than all premier league clubs.

The Rochdale manager was there 13 months Jim. Come on, these are basic facts
Yeah, but sacked after four games this season. Half way was acceptable to the Rochdale board, bottom wasn't.

It does but in certain ways that was my point.
I haven't asked for Betsy to be sacked but we have to face the truth that the start in league has been horrendous. Trying to sugar coat it with the manager needs more time or lots of new players that need time to gel is deluding ourselves.

Those two clubs have loads of players who would be in their reserve and academy sections rather than listed as first team players. Also Premier League clubs tend to have more players out on loan at other clubs too, I remember a few years ago Chelsea had around 30 on loan

How many Premier League players do Fulham have? According to your logic on this thread it's about 11 isn't it?

I genuinely can't believe he doesn't know that? Everyone knows Premier League clubs have small armies of contracted players, they just divide them into various categories to fulfill different fixtures lists. Not really that different to us building a squad to fulfill B team fixtures but heigh-ho, discussing this requires basic levels of good faith

And that is a basic fact Steve.
Jim Baker
No, that's your spinning of the facts? He was sacked for his overall record over both seasons, and he certainly didn't finish halfway last season. Boards don't sack managers for 5 games' worth of results, ever, they will always take into account previous games. The equivalent for Betsy would be a disappointing finish well below halfway this season and a bad start to next season. We are 12 months away from even any chance of that happening, albeit face the tedious prospect of a hardcore group of naysayers pretending we are already here every week and not even giving Betsy five days' credit for beating a Premier League team. And we didn't even lose in Rochdale, hilariously. God can you imagine the meltdowns on here if that had happened

I was kinda talking about first team squad. Academy football isn’t professional football. You could start including the under 14s if you like or the ladies squad. It doesn’t change the fact that we are paying 40 players a professional wage. Most teams in our league are roughly 22-24 players. They say love is blind and your love for Betsy is a strange one. How many B games have we played? How did that go? Are we getting value for the extra 18 players in the squad?

You know full well he wasn't talking about women and any under 16s age groups, that's a deliberate wind-up comment. Presumably you think Brighton only beat Forest Green Rovers 2-0 midweek because you can't count the goal scored by their Academy Player Evan Ferguson who is not a professional footballer? Keep this flawless logic coming.
Would love to hear you tell James Balagizi that as an 18-year-old Academy player you're lumping him in with the under 14s

Thanks for arguing my point better than I could have…Ferguson is part of Brighton’s 25 player first team squad! We have 40 and I wouldn’t mind betting that will grow by the end of the season. Now I know you don’t like anyone to question Betsy, but I will keep things simple and I know you like Steve evans so here we go - At Stevenage Evans has gone for a smaller 20 man squad with more experience which has yielded 13 points from 6 games. So my “flawless logic” is Betsy’s 40 man squad is far too big and not enough experience. So Steve you agree with Betsy that 40 man squad lacking experience is the way to go? I know you don’t like anyone having a different opinion to you, but if I started a poll asking is the squad too big more than 50% would agree so I feel entitled to have my opinion. It’s not Betsys money at the end of the day so he’s going to keep asking for more. You keep talking about long term plans and Balagizi, you do realise he’s only on loan? We have to give him back at the end of the season, and not sure he’s going to want to come back to play National league football.
