It was a very bad tackle, and his reaction didn't help so I completely understand Brighton fans' reaction. We'd all be doing the exact same if it was one of ours.
In fact, I remember spitting acid when one of Brighton's players tried to injure Darcy towards the end of the Bristol Motors game last week, so maybe it is just one of those things.
I don't like to see any player getting seriously injured (by the way, do we know the extent of the injury yet? Darcy limped off exactly the same way in our 1st match of the season, but was playing again 3 days later), but it's interesting isn't it, that the outrage seems to be that O'Riley is a £25M+ new signing in his 1st game for the club. Had it been a B Squad guy picked up on a free transfer from a Championship club, would there be so many comments? I doubt it.
Yes, it could have been a yellow and the referee could have been a lot more consistent throughout the match. The red card for Roles at the end was the right decision, but the referee let a lot of the Brighton shoves go without the slightest second thought.
and Crawley fans have a real hatred for Seaweeds. No surprises it kicked off after the game, don't know why police didn't hold the Crawley fans back it was a recipe for conflict. Plenty of "Pikey" calls from the entitled scum on the coast but they throw a hissy fit when they get it given back. Pathetic lot. Had the police not stepped in after the game there would've been a lot more punches etc thrown. They can fvck off and crawl back under their soulless stadium and absolute sh1t hole of Falmer.

That’s exactly my point!
We’re only disappointed because it’s exciting to have a big money signing and we wanted to see them play, and hopefully improve us!
I’d be far less bothered if it weren’t the new big money signing!
Surely, you’d feel the same if the shoe were on the other foot?!
Though the main point of my post was to clarify that this was the reason we were annoyed, not because Crawley put together some decent moves (which they certainly did), so at least I seem to have achieved that.

All fair, though we wouldn't know what it's like to have a big money signing.

But the boot was on the other foot recently. One of your U21s clogged Ronan Darcy so he had to be helped off the pitch in the game last week. Did our forum immediately erupt into a barrage of bile against Brighton’s team, city and residents? There has always been an element on your forum which looks down on Crawley and trots out the same old tired garbage about us being the club which nearly made you go out of business and about how the county boundary should be redrawn so we aren’t in Sussex. Pathetic, patronising and totally hypocritical nonsense.

Ronan Darcy didn’t sign for you the day before as a big hope for the midfield.
He also played last night (and played well, I would add) so evidently wasn’t badly injured.
Obviously (and this surely must be obvious?!), the criticism I am making of Williams is based on the assumption O’Riley is badly injured.
If O’Riley starts our game on Saturday then I’ll completely row back my criticism of Williams and I’ll certainly agree I’ve over-reacted.
If he’s out til Christmas, having played 6 minutes for us, then I’m sure you see why we’re unhappy and you would be, if the boot were on the other foot…. which it obviously wasn’t last week, despite what you say.
The three posters who have commented here have been very respectful, maybe this annoying/maybe it seems smug…. or maybe we’re just normal minded people making a polite point about football.
I have enjoyed how rattled they are. Imagine getting so emotionally triggered at a 4-0 win against a team 60 or so places below you in the pyramid.
I didn’t think the game was rough. The ref made it seem worse than it was. Even the Williams one is only getting traction cos it’s the record signing.
People (or at least the people like me on this thread) have been quite clear we’re unhappy with what we perceive to be a bad injury to a player we signed the day before as a big hope for our midfield.
And yes, it is definitely 100% because he’s a big new signing, made literally the day before (after summer long rumours!)
Surely you can all see why that would piss us off! Surely?!
Bhafc1983 - What the feck has who the player is got to do with it? On that basis, are you saying it’s okay for your player to clog Darcy then as he’s only a League One player and not a multi million pound international? Yes, he did play last night - but your guy wouldn’t have known that was going to happen when he watched him being helped off the pitch last week. We know Williams can be a hot head and the tackle wasn’t great but the way some people are reacting on your forum and on the BBC website it’s like he is Vlad the Impaler, Genghis Khan and Pol Pot rolled into one. Ridiculous over reaction.
North Stand Chat is so far removed from football fans it might as well be Mumsnet. I say this as a Whitehawk fan (I wont mention the Sussex County Cup or Dean Saunders) who reads that forum daily and got banned for daring to call people out on it. The majority of people on there are happy clapper foam handers who think their own farts don't stink. Of course they will look down on fans of Crawley because it isn't a middle class fake hole that Brighton is. These people, while expressing diversity and understanding, generally look down and mock people who live in certain parts of the country, or who have jobs below them. The forum is a cesspit of echoing farts, where one of the main antagonist is a so called moderator. Who knew a game of industrial football would results in so much crying from 'Brighton' fans. They are sport fans, not football fans.
