Because we were excited to see him play but only got 5 minutes and, for all we know (and, like I say, this is the assumption everyone is among), we won’t see him again this side of Christmas.
As I said (I do seem to have to repeat myself a lot), if O’Riley is fine to play next week, then no big deal, fouls happen…. But the criticism is based on assuming it is a bad injury.
And no, I didn’t say it was fine for anyone to foil anyone else, I was just explaining why the reaction seems a bit over the top. If, for example, the foul and injury had happened to Webster, the reaction wouldn’t be the same.
I bet Webster would love to read that. And you call yourself a Brighton fan. You are a joke mate. The ref called a foul and dealt with the incident. Get over yourself.
Thinking about it though, I probably shouldn’t have name checked a player as it looks like I’m picking on him (which I’m not, I like Webster!).
I was just trying to find an example of a player who wasn’t young and making their way, hadn’t just joined, didn’t have a history of injuries (all of which are the case for various others who started on Tuesday and for whom maybe people would be similarly upset about).
Probably would have been best to not try and name an example though as things can taken the wrong way.
Long standing Brighton supporter here. Have several Crawley supporters as friends and have always and still wish them well. I fully appreciate manager approaching this game would be telling players to get stuck in but sorry that tackle which I was close to was so over the top and manager was right in saying should have no place in football. Could easily have ended up as a career ending injury and surprised something is not in place for FA to look at it and give retrospective punishment. I think you will find Brighton supporters have got nothing against Crawley FC but what cheesed them of was the supporters who all but celebrated the tackle from Williams and player going off. Nobody but refs fault that he was not sent off but I have seen very few tackles like that in 30 years of watching football As a matter of interestI was pleased for Crawley when got into FL . Can you explain why after so many years with such a good catchment area you still only attract 3/3500 crowds

I can assure you no manager I have ever known instructs a player to end another players career - ridiculous. Football is a physical game, it carries risks and the ref was highly skilled professional much closer than you to the incident which was correctly punished with a caution. Jay Williams is a fantastic professional football that has risen up from non-league very quickly and rightfully has good backing from the club and supporters. He is a leader and was outstanding in this and previous matches this season. He can play a lot higher than L1 and I look forward to him playing in the PL one day, hopefully with Crawley.

A lot of people in early Crawley migrated from London in the 1950/60s and brought their football allegiances with them - which they passed to the next generation and so on. This probably stuck, because Crawley Town were a long way down the pyramid. This has probably started to change due to the club's relative success in recent years and a new generation of children - plus because of the extortionate cost of following a Premier League team these days, especially when travel is factored in. I know several Brighton supporters who live in Crawley sometimes come and watch when Brighton are playing away. I can promise the more agressive posters here that those supporters only have one head each.

Jay Williams is a real leader for sure he sets great examples on the pitch and his instructions to others was exceptional. He can definitely play at a higher level in time.

I was at the game as well and saw it clearly. It was clearly not over the top. It was a little late, a little clumsy - that is all. Tackles like that happen up and down the country every week. It only looks worse in slow motion but life doesn't happen in slow motion.
We have already had other Brighton supporters registering for this forum to complain - what is your point? Why not air your grievances on your own forum.
It is time to stop this over-reaction and see it for what is was - a late tackle and O'Riley unlucky to be injured.
It is also time to stop the over the top attacks on our player.
We have all seen death threats aimed against him, hopes that he will suffer a life or career ending injury, calls to go to his house and "sort him out". There was also calls for legal action to be taken for assault against him (someone even offered to pay to make this happen), for Crawley to be liquidated as a club - and that is just some of the hyperbole.
He is a young player - it is time for Brighton supporters to back off, calm down and stop the tirade.

Thanks George - this is only a flavour of the content on some of the Brighton forums.

Agree with the above from Sons FC. I haven't commented on the game as wasn't there as I was away on holiday.
But OMFG, how many butthurt Brighton fans are still on here crying into their Babychams 2 days after the match? They won 4-0 for chrissakes. One of their players got injured which is a real shame for the guy as it was his debut, but some of them, mostly on the BBC footy pages and on social media, are going on like we had him shot.
Sometimes, new signings do get injured, Leny Yoro anyone? Lavia for Chelsea last season. It's really unfortunate but it happens, it's part of football. No player, especially a CTFC player, deliberately tries to injure an opponent. Any Brighton fans think differently? Well they're just idiots.
I'm sorry to say it's no longer acceptable to refer to AFC Wimbledon as AFC Sanctimonious. They've been usurped. It's now Sanctimonious Albion.

To clarify, because your wording is ambiguous: did someone offer to pay for legal action against Williams (which is their right, although little chance of succeeding IMO), or did someone offer to pay for someone to go and sort Williams out (a breach of several serious laws). If the latter, I think police involvement might be on the cards. The problem is that we can never know the intent or context when someone writes a post. For all we know it might have been someone taking the piss out of some of their own supporters for their OTT reaction.

"The referees' decision to do nothing about it has made it a while lot worse!" SL goes on to say it was a genuine attempt by Jay to win the ball. "He mistimed it as simple as that" and says "If the referee would have done his job properly maybe it would've bee a bit calmer" [reference to Social Media reaction etc]. SL says he spoke to Jay and he is upset about it. SL says he wanted BHA coaching staff numbers to apologise afterwards." We've got to try and make sure we protect our players as well in terms of the stick Jay has got."
SL comment: "The referees' decision to do nothing about it has made it a while lot worse!" may get him in trouble.
