They don't like it up em and are moaning like girls . You'd have thought one of their players had never mistimed a challenge . The fact it was the the blokes first game or they paid £25m for him is irrelevant. It was a sporting incident end of.
Why they are selling Gilmour for 12m and buying him for 25m is a mystery in itself.
We were excellent yesterday . Williams, Flint Kelly and D'Arcy ran the show for large parts.
Finishing wasn't great and a little bit of a concern but hopefully we will come good in that area.
I used to have a soft spot for Brighton but it’s increasingly hard. For most of their history, they’ve been a mid or lower league side of very little relevance other than a curious away day by the sea. I’ve been to the Goldstone and the Withdean quite a few times over the years where they did well to get 6-7k watching fans. Suddenly they’ve grown thanks to the lucky money of their owner. A 30k stadium filled with new fans, probably including many whose main loyalty was elsewhere. Trying to give it large with anyone they come across to pretend they’re a big club. No trophies. Not even a domestic cup. Never even won a match at Wembley. Just trying desperately to be noticed. Tragic really. And the way they were celebrating gracelessly last night was embarrassingly pathetic. They can’t win at Wembley but they managed to beat a smaller team who has. Woop woop.

Still absolutely fuming about that tackle, and Crawley fans are gloating about it online.
Scum club with scum players and scum fans. I hope they end up in a situation like we did in the 90s, needing a "Fans United" type movement. And I hope no fans of real clubs lift a finger to help them.
^ This is my personal favourite. It really highlights the pathetic reaction from the Brighton fans. We've been there and done that with the Majeeeds so at least do your research also what quantifies a "real club"? The fact that for many their first reaction to their new signing getting injured is to hope for a club to go out of business is lamentable.
I understand most that are embarrassing Brighton online have only supported the club since 2017 but come on.
Williams' tackle and wink really seems to have got them going. Don't think it would have been as bad without it. Wonder if FA will look at tackle retrospectively as on TV and he did not receive a booking. Unfortunately he could be a marked man this year both by players and refs, after the publicity. He will need to be careful or could get a lot of bookings again.
A number of fans did praise us though for the attractive football and felt we were the better team in the first half.
I know I don’t represent all Brighton fans but I reckon the majority would agree with the following take on yesterday (even if they’ve not been around as long as me):
Been a season ticket holder for 30 years (goldstone, both Priestfield years, withdean and now Amex). We’ve still been shit for longer than we’ve been good in my time of watching us. It is still a novelty to be good and it is still exciting for me to see our badge on the MOTD credits. The current spending is surreal (and very exciting).
I’ve always quite liked Crawley. The 5-0 at the goldstone was just before I started going regularly (and I was still a kid) so any aggro at that game would have passed me by.
I’d always respected Crawley fans for supporting a lower league (often non league) team when they have Premier league clubs very near to them. Fair play to that.
I remember watching the play off final in the west lower concourse before a home game last season and I remember me and everyone around me were audibly pleased to see Crawley win so I don’t think my slight affection was unusual.
Yeah, yeah, I hear you saying: “shut up bhafc1983, you sanctimonious patronising old git”…. ok, be like that but there is more that we have in common than we don’t. But for the blind luck of having Tony Bloom grow up as a fan, we’d be no higher up the league than Crawley… and most proper Brighton fans know that.
Anyway, I was looking forward to yesterday evening. I feel like I identify way more with Crawley fans than most Premier League teams. They’ve had a decent start to the season. Let’s see what they’ve got!
… and Crawley played some very decent stuff (albeit against a team of squad players, rather than first choices, who are not used to playing together… but we still had internationals and plenty of premier league experience among them - and still they cost a lot of money to bring in). It was impressive.
I particularly remember a great move where you opened us up on our right side before your lad went for the near post finish and it was saved. You hadn’t come to sit back.
But…. Williams, and other’s, approach of clearly looking to leave something on our players was really disappointing.
He should have been sent off within the first 10 minutes and the number of late challenges was completely unnecessary.
It’s really galling to have the excitement of signing a new player for lots of money (yes, this is all still new to many of us) extinguished by such an unnecessary and bad foul (which inexplicably goes unpunished)…. and then have the protagonist appear to laugh it off.
So forgive us if our goodwill to Crawley for the season has been dampened (“don’t care, you patronising wanker”…. yeah, yeah, like I say, we’ve more in common with you than most of our opposition).
Those on here saying how proud they were of the attacking play - so you should be. Those proud of the “approach” for “not being scared” and roughing Albion up, I think you’ve got it very wrong and you should be able to appreciate why people like me are miffed. It certainly isn’t cos we didn’t like you cutting through our defence with incisive attacking play, so don’t pretend it is.
Anyway, well played for many parts but I can’t help but hope Williams’ career goes downhill fast.
Hi, Brighton fan here (since 1976). Do we hate Crawley? It was noticable that we didn't sing any songs against the club or town. You sang the usual 'Brighton's a s**thole' etc, but I think there was a weak 'small town in Gatwick' that lasted one line. We respect that you're a local club and do wish you well. The fact that we've been there, done that & got the T-Shirt probably is the reason why. Our hatred is for the big money clubs spending beyond their means. Regarding fans supporting big clubs. Whilst playing at Withdean we lost a whole generation of fans. Kids would be wearing Man Utd, Liverpool & Arsenal shirts in town, but the club specificaly went after those fans 10 years ago and now kids wear Brighton shirts. Is there not a handfull of supporters at Crawley who also support Brighton, Palace or Chelsea as their main club. I expect so. As for winning at Wembley. We won in Cardiff when Wembley was shut, does that count? But no, we lose to clubs who out spend us. Even the EFL Cup we know we'll stay in it until we play Man City, but then doesn't everyone? Next to O'Riley. That was an awfull tackle. OK, so you play 2nd Division football and may be a second slower than us, but that was an awfull tackle. Did you outplay us? Yes, in some parts. I didn't check you team so don't know who was first team but we played a completly changed team with new players who had never played for the club and some youngsters. Had you been able to finish and put the ball in the net we could well have struggled. Post match booing. What did you expect? Late tackles, red card and bad fouls. I think the ref should have been a bit stronger at the start of the game and then we could have had a game of football. Very early a Crawley player 'made it known' to a Brighton player that he was not going to let him pass. But every club knows the score. Mitoma and lately our new signing Minteh, are hacked down early game but EPL refs stamp down on it quickly. So to sum up. We wish you well in the future but for now your just another victory for us.
Another long-term Albion fan here and (who has taken-in the occasional Crawley game). We don't hate Crawley; isn't bleedin' obvious that a lot of us are just totally p1ssed-off that the player who we were excited about seeing for the first time is pole-axed by a smirking clogger after 6 minutes. Brilliant, congratulations Crawley for bringing the big-time Charlies down to earth (I've spent most of my Albion days watching 3rd and 4th tier football). an Also, all this crap about lack of atmosphere last night. Early rounds of the League Cup are an opportunity for those who cant normally get a ticket to see a match at a cheap price; lots of families with kids, foreign tourists, etc. Hard-core Albion fans are spending enough money already on away-days at Everton and Arsenal next Saturday.
You all registered on our forum to pretend to "like" Crawley and outline your credentials as Brighton fans, as I see it, simply as an excuse to tear into one of our players.
Your dedication to appear to be friendly is completely lost while your real intention is to wish one of our players ill.
I was at the game. The tackle was a little late, a little clumsy but no worse than you see every week across all the divisions. It only looks bad in slow motion but life doesn't happen in slow motion. The intention of the grin and wink are your own projections for what you consider are sinister reasons.
The real reason you are all upset is that it happened to your new £25-£30 million player.
Brighton fans (I include you three) have completely over-reacted to this - you need to calm down, take a step back and take the emotion out of it - better still take yourselves out of our forum and go back to your own echo chamber.
Your intentions to appear friendly while attempting to get support for criticising one of our players are not worthy of you.
Again, the attention seeking “notice me pleeeeaaaase” aspect of modern day Brighton fans is coming out in buckets here. Why people bother registering with another club’s forum just to whinge and whine is beyond me.
It was a good, competitive, feisty encounter, and both clubs have come on leaps and bounds since 1992 when we last played a proper match.
I didn't register on your forum to "pretend to like Crawley"... I registered to counter some of the daft comments I read on here about Brighton and it's fans and our supposed hatred of Crawley. I quite openly said that the reason we are p1ssed-off is the neanderthal assault on Matt O'Riley who we have been looking forward to seeing PLAY FOOTBALL. It's obvious that Crawley's game-plan was to put some "little clumsy" whacks in early. Classy.
