Not sounding too bad by all accounts, how are the new players doing?
both sub'd after an hour. Didnt look great maybe not 100% match fit. Coasting to a 2-0 thrashing then negative play it in corner etc tactics threw it away. Stevenage were so bad several away fans left with about 20 mins remaining. I bet they regret that now.
What’s really pi***** me off now is how defensive we go, we clearly cannot hold onto any sort of lead so why not learn from the endless mistakes and try something new. Try and attack until the end, never know we may have got a 3rd although we still would have blown a 3 goal lead.
It's annoying how negative the football has been at times this term because last season we had quite a few games where we smashed teams (like Tranmere, Morecambe and Leeds) and you just wonder if Yems maybe has lost confidence in the strikers a little since Watters left I don't know. Plus it kinda goes back to a previous argument I made that we could really do with one or two players who excel at 's***housery' as most teams in this league are pretty good at that and I feel that might help us get over the line on a few more occasions just through having passionate characters who can really galvanize the team. Surely Yems dreams about signing one of those players in his sleep too, as that would suit his style quite well I think.
At least it sounds like we have a decent attacking midfielder now, albeit only on loan, and I heard the new forward was decent. People have been telling me Francomb and Nadesan had shockers when they came on though, don't know if that's true or a bit harsh?

Yes and I was glad I wasn't able to go now, having previously been very disappointing about not making it. Sounded like they tried to do the same thing as Swindon which didn't work either.
It is extremely frustrating when we throw away points like these time and time again because I think with just one or two additions and tweaks we could have a very good team that's capable of going for promotion. My hope is that in the summer we replace a lot of the fringe players that are out of contract with guys who can improve the team in our weak spots. Plus also hoping that Yems (providing he is still manager by August) brings in one or two new coaches that can help iron out these mistakes in training, as surely he knows of a few good ones around considering his vast contacts list

Yes, Francomb and Nadesan were poor apart from one run and good pass from Nadesan. I think Yems messed up bringing off Hutchinson and Oteh as they were both doing well; although Oteh was quiet in the first half he was getting into the game. After the substitutions we lost control of the midfield and allowed them to come at us. Very disappointing to only draw, that should have been 3 points no problem for us.
Disappointing result but actually a good home performance for once. Hopefully once people will have calmed down a bit you’ll see some positives that should stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.
The main one for me was Hutchinson in midfield who had a superb debut and who will now hopefully take the pressure off Powell in midfield as our main creative outlet.
We really didn’t stop attacking in the second half, everyone could see Nichols just had to pass it into the net after brilliant work by Nadesan but somehow he contrived to miss. Another reason why he won’t take penalties again for us. But what can you do - otherwise Nichols had an excellent game, both in defence at set pieces and attack.
And today we glimpsed we might be starting to get a bit of depth in the squad. The strongest bench we had all season but just one of those things that Francomb and Ferry couldn’t see the game home.
You have to give some credit to Stevenage. Their first goal was an absolute beauty, possibly aided by a mistake by Tilley? But again Tilley had a good game so are you going to batter him?
Their last long ball effort our defenders should have done better but we have a good collection of centre backs who deserve supporting not slating.
The missing piece today and in recent games is Appiah, he’s our most clinical scorer and I feel we needed him to be on the pitch when the game opened up in the second half and we had so many good chances for the third

I think he might have taken those two players off because he was worried about their fitness seeing that they hadn't played many games this season and only signed earlier in the week. I would have brought Marshall on though because although I don't think he's the best player he's the kind that helps you see games out when you need or gives you a bit of extra energy against more tired legs. Look at what happened vs Bradford a fortnight ago for example
The issue with the new players being brought off is not an obvious one. Yems would have been slated for keeping players who have had no 90 minute games recently if goals had gone in. Now he’s being criticised for taking them off (a percentage move I think most managers would have followed).
The discussion on here would be very different now if one of our central defenders had just got his head on the ball as they should of at the end. Football is a game of fine margins as we all know.
For me the big mistake was the corner we had at the end. Yems was calling players back, then they were trying to go forward again and it ended up with 2 players close to the corner flag and none in the penalty area. We totally lost our shape at the end allowing Stevenage back into the game.
The 2 substitutions seemed pre planned. Let’s give them 60 minutes then change. They both had good games and helped keep the ball in Stevenage half. Allowing us to control midfield. Why make a double substitution?

just shows its a game of opinions but I thought Hutchinson looked lost at times
Not Fit Enough & Bad Tactically AGAIN in the 2nd Half. Not Rocket Science!
So Yems was wrong keeping unfit players on the pitch and wrong for bringing fresh players on to shore up a 2-0 lead. Glad we’ve cleared that one up. Maybe pick one of those for peak troll performance? Think you are in danger of running out of puff in the second half of the discussion

It sure does. For me the new forward had a quiet game and I’d be looking for more from him to keep his place in the starting 11. Hutchinson though I’m excited by

Yes for 70 minutes we were pretty excellent, and should’ve punished them on the break once they started throwing more men forward: Nichols blazes over and Powell can’t quite get on the end of a square pass. One of those goes in and its game over. As it was, their changes started to have an impact and they stayed in the game.
