This appointment is a bit out of the blue and unexpected NGL but he's not had a training session yet, let alone a match so I don't feel it's right for me to judge him yet. I can see why a lot of people are worried he might be similar to Betsy considering his past experience however just going by his interview and talking to a couple of Peterborough fans I get the feeling it won't be a repeat of the methodical, slow football we saw in the first two months of the season. Time will tell though.
January will certainly be key as to the decisions he makes. Will he recall Glenn Morris and even Kwesi Appiah? What does he do with the players Betsy signed that are nowhere near the first team now? Will he be able to find the right back and central midfielder I feel we need if we're to progress?
please do NOT recall Glenn. Glenn has been exceptional repeatedly for the club over a long period but I honestly think we have a couple of better fit keepers now. Glenn is still exceptional I just prefer his replacements.
Think the Gills fans I talked to in the bar said he was out injured. At some point we have to move on - do people still see him being at the head of a promotion team in 18 months' time given his age (we've missed our chance this season you'd think)
yes and no. For the "no" it screams 1. Lewis Young was one of our own a Crawley lad through and through for many years. Club legend. 2. If ME is anything like KB fans will feel extremely angry and let down and 3. A gamble that I honestly believe many fans dont want the club to take especially given LY has had success in much shorter time given to KB. 4. There is strong argument that LY deserved longer because he was working exceptionally well given the mess he took over.
There was always a difficult decision to take regarding Lewis, I liked him a lot but it's incredibly early for him in his coaching/managing career, I could have gone either way on that in terms of him getting the job here permanently but that's fair enough, it's a good thing people want to champion his cause and good luck to them and good luck to Lewis if he lands somewhere else straight away and starts massively proving us wrong.
What I don't think is that great though is starting to slag off another guy before he even walks in the door, that's a new thing that's starting to creep into fan culture that I've not seen before. It's not good for Crawley because the level we are at we often will have names come here who are not very well known, who had heard of Dermot Drummy and maybe some Brighton fans may have heard of Richie Barker.
Etherington deserves the backing that we've given any new manager in the past. Starting to invent stuff about him that he is bad like so and so or will do this and that bad thing without giving him any chance at all injects a sourness into the fan base that could seep into support at grounds.
By all means champion Lewis Young but, to do that, it's not necessary to run down Matt Etherington
I don't see George running down Etherington in his post - rather he just says fans will be unhappy IF he turns out to be another Betsy, with Betsyball tactics. Most of it was about Lewis Young.
Also, people saying Young doesn't have enough managerial experience to take on the job full time, and then welcoming a complete novice manager into the role....... go figure.

Don't we still need a goalkeeping coach? Also, Morris would be a very decent back up to Addai or whoever we have between the sticks next season. Addai would benefit greatly from Morris' guidance (especially on positioning at free kicks!)
It's all dependent on whether Morris does want to return here (I've heard he does) and also whether he wants to keep playing at first team level - in which case he will probably extend his loan at Gillingham.
Remember, Dino Zoff won the World Cup with Italy at 40 years of age, and he was captain. Morris has got a few years left yet.

You haven't seen criticism of Etherington on this forum and other forums? OK then

There's been a bit of "I hope he's not another Betsy type" but it's mostly berating the club for choosing yet another U-23s coach. You quoted George, yet he didn't criticise ME. And I thought forums were the place for people to air their views and opinions, however misguided or inaccurate?
Personally, I don't understand anyone who slates ME before he's taken charge of a few games. Let's see how he does.
I personally don’t see ME being anything like KB in his approach to the under 23 style of playing - firstly Peterborough are an EFL team who like playing on the front foot and attack teams - which doesn’t include tippy tappy footed- he has coached players that The Posh bring in from non-league teams under the guidance of Barry Fry - who seems to be able to pick up gems - a bit like JY has done for us in the past -
We all support Crawley - and will do long after owners, managers and players have moved on, so keep the faith, we will have bad times and then we’ll have good times but you can guarantee success in any sport - we just need to back and support our club.

But it has happening and I'm amazed you can't see it. I've watched sheldloads of unknown coaches/managers arrive here over the years and I've not seen such a sour reaction to any of them

I wouldn't worry about it too much Steve. I only read this forum. The CTFC Facebook groups have some prize plums on there. Laughable opinions sometimes. I don't worry about them. If people are gonna slag off ME before he's even started that's their lookout. If ME can keep us out of the relegation zone he'll be fine. If he gets rid of some fan favourite players in January to bring in a bunch of academy kids, not so much. Time will tell. I'm cautiously optimistic.
It seems a lot of folk on this forum know a lot about the new manager and how he is sure to fail.I think he was chosen because the owners wanted someone who is "DATA" driven which seemed their main focus on the owners recent forum when discussing the Gillingham game.
Does a data driven approach deal with the interpersonal skills, man management etc.? There is far more to managing a football club than the data managers get fed by these analysts. Lewis Young has the backing of the players and he was backed by the fans too. The club have taken that away - what reaction did you expect?
Spot on Nick, personnel management is key to a successful team.
Watching today's training session on YouTube I thought I saw Balagizi taking part, that would be a nice bonus if he's available he was also wearing his number 20 on his training kit.

Let's hope the two new guys have that skill set.
Lewis certainly had it.
Firstly welcome to our new hire.
Maybe not first choice but we need to give him a chance.
I'd also like to thank Lewis for his efforts and although he wouldn't have been my choice for keeping on I fully understand if he felt undermined by the appointment.
I like many am left wondering how this will go, we can only hope it goes well and it proves to be an inspired choice. The last thing we need at the next few games is the crowd turning on another manager before he gets the chance to do anything.
So Lewis takes a bottom of the table side, completely turns it around to promotion form in couple of months, has all the players busting a gut for him and this is his reward. Club is rotten to the core, and that core is the other side of the Atlantic with no clue about the game. New manager is all about the stats and attacking football, where have we heard that one before! Ha she not seen our defensive record, 2nd worst in the league!
While I agree there was a big improvement when Lewis took over but I'm not sure how long it would last as we looked pretty awful at home against second from bottom Gillingham.
One of the weirdest things about the Betsy thing is that there is now a bunch of people that believe data are a bad thing. Actually analysing and studying is not what proper football men do
