While I agree there was a big improvement when Lewis took over but I'm not sure how long it would last as we looked pretty awful at home against second from bottom Gillingham.
All teams have off days - overall LY application measured in his massive appreciation, respect given, loyalty to the club and fans, success on and off the pitch and much more beyond this has been impeccable. How long would his excellent form continue? How long is a piece of string? My glass was half full not empty drinking the success LY brought the club.
One of the weirdest things about the Betsy thing is that there is now a bunch of people that believe data are a bad thing. Actually analysing and studying is not what proper football men do
The weirdest thing with the Betsy thing was people bought into the stats drivel he spouted.

Betsy lost 8 league games in 12, and Lewis lost 1 in 7 yet people were saying we were too hasty letting Betsy go yet not too hasty letting Lewis go after a draw with Gillingham! Unbelievable.

EXACTLY and looks what's happening again!
Making the same mistakes is a clear sign of madness, and we have appointed Betsy version2.0 and once again we are having the same conversations with the same people about stats.

Come on, you and the rest of us have no idea what Etherington will be like as CTFC manager. No idea what tactics he will use, what style of play, who he will sign in January and who he will let go etc.
Just because he uses data doesn't automatically mean we will be playing tippy tappy Betsyball. We can still be a fast moving, attacking team playing attractive football, with free scoring strikers, a solid defence and a mobile, dynamic midfield......ok maybe not all at once, but there's no reason why we can't improve and carry on pushing up the table. ME can continue the momentum begun by Lewis. Yeah it could all go wrong, but give the guy a chance.
The very best of luck to Matthew - he has my (our) full support.
The problem is you can't moneyball football (are we really using moneyball as a verb??). The difference between US sports and the rest of the world is that US sports tend to be very controlled and operate in explosive set plays and bursts. What works in these conditions does not necessarily work in more fluid sports.
In football, concepts such as shape, covering and positioning are very important but there are no stats to track those so we end up with stats that are otherwise meaningless, such as, if a player doesn't attempt to tackle, they cannot record a "missed" or "attempted" tackle in the stats.
Chris Galley the Director of Football is very much into the stats side of the game and when asked in the Owners' Box podcast whether the stats support hiring Lewis, he stated "possibly not". There is football that we all recognise and there are the stats, which increasingly seem to bear no relation to outcome.

Stats analysis is now a fundamental part of football at all levels. You're literally the equivalent of a flat earther or climate change denier if you spend your time raging against it

MATTHEW ETHERINGTON'S RED ARMY!
Thomas Frank would probably be many people's idea of the most intuitive and passionate manager around.
Yet everything he does at Brentford is grounded in the stats analysis his club popularised in English football. Benham isn't a Yank, just a smart guy like Tony Bloom at Brighton who knew it could add to levels of performance as stuff like proper nutrition did a generation ago. Our guy Galley is a product of this success.
The only stat most of the fans understand is how many times we get the ball in the back of the net and did we win. Football is really a simple game, get the ball in the net more times than the opposition its only clowns like KB and our director of football who try to make it into a science.

So with all Betsy’s stats knowledge he could only manage to win 1 league game!! So if stats is so key to winning league 2 football matches are you saying Betsy wouldn’t have won any without the great analysis? No one is saying stats don’t play a role in football, but to claim it’s one of the most important factors in winning a l2 football match is clueless. If Lewis young isn’t into the stats at the same level then am I bothered, I’d take his ability to motivate a football team over the stats any day. The main stat that matters was his 1.7 point a game compared to Betsy’s 0.5. Broken record springs to mind.

Totally agree Trevor - most supporters are only driven by the number of times that their team puts the ball in the opponents net - no other statistic counts - what does 90% possession mean if you don’t score -
